Premier Visits Burns Lake

Sunday, January 22, 2012 @ 2:45 PM
Burns Lake B.C.- Premier Christy Clark is in Burns Lake this hour, visiting the site of one of the worst industrial tragedies in the Province’s history.

The visit has been labelled as being an opportunity for the Premier to thank the first responders who attended the scene, and to meet with those impacted by the disaster, that includes the families of the injured and the missing.

Friday night , an explosion and fire levelled the Babine Forest Products sawmill.   19 workers suffered injuries, some of them critical. Two employees are missing.

Premier Clark was given a standing ovation by the people at the Margaret Patrick Hall when she told them the Province is standing behind them and will support the community.   She has not provided any specifics on just what the Province plans to do.
In addition to meeting with local leaders, Premier Clark lit candles for the two missing workers.

The search for the two missing employees will not happen until the site has been deemed safe for closer inspection. Structural engineers will make that determination.

WorkSafeBC has at least 6 investigators ready to examine the site, but at the moment, the RCMP   is the lead investigative body on this tragedy.

Thankyou Premier Clark for attending. That is awesome.

I agree slim, taking time out of her busy life to come to Burns Lake and to light a candle for the missing two, shows me she has some morals and some class, That WAS an awesome thing to do for the people there. My prayers are with them…

Lets see what support if the mill is not rebuilt. Look what happened at Barrier after the forest fire. I understand the mill was looking for some financial help and breaks to rebuild and they did not get it.
