Saturday, January 28, 2012 @ 9:22 PM

Prince George, B.C. –  There are two power outages in the Northwest Region following today’s snowstorm, fortunately affecting just a few residents…

The largest outage is in Kitimat, where 68 BC Hydro customers are without power this hour.  The lights went out at approximately 8pm and affects residents living in the area bounded by Banyay Avenue, Hallman Street and Stickney Street.  The cause of the outage is under investigation, but service is expected to be restored by 12:30am.

Kitimat was also remains under a snowfall and rainfall warning.  The community received a dump that was part of a Pacific frontal system moving through the area earlier today.  The rain is expected to set in overnight and continue through the day.

And a minor outage is being reported in Smithers, where less than five residences are affected on Grouse Mountain.  The power went out just before 10am this morning and BC Hydro does not expect to have service restored until 5pm on Monday.  The cause there is also under investigation.

While Smithers is not under a snowfall warning, the community did have snow today and Environment Canada is calling for snow mixed with rain overnight.
