Fuel Tax Change Good News for YXS
Prince George, B.C.- The announcement that the Province is going to remove the 2% tax from jet fuel for international flights to and from Asia is good news for Prince George.
Effective April 1st, that fuel tax will be eliminated. It is something the Prince George Airport worked with the Vancouver Airport to achieve “We had been advised this tax change would be coming” says PG Airport President John Gibson, “We are very pleased to see that it was officially announced in the budget.”
The Vancouver Airport business case presented to the Province indicated elimination of the tax would help increase flights and thereby increase jobs associated with that increased traffic.
For Prince George, it means the plan to make YXS a tech stop or cargo stop has become more competitive.
“This increases our competitiveness with Alaska and even with Alberta” says Gibson.
The Prince George Airport has been taking steps to establish itself as a preferred airport for tech stops for international cargo flights. In addition to the runway extension and the refuelling pad which have already been completed, the airport expects to have its fuel storage system in place by the end of June.

That’s why the price of gas went up again to susidize them.
Part of a quote in a local paper on Saturday October 6,2007, by then Airport Manager Stieg Hoeg, in regards to the Airport Expansion.
***Once the runway extension is completed in 2009, its expected 32 international flights a year carrying nearly 14000 passengers will land in Prince George for each of the first three years, rising to 184 flights and 83,000 passengers by 2030, corresponding to seven flights per week during the tourist season.
Cargo flights, meanwhile, are expected to total 312 from 2009 to 2011 and reach 1860 by 2021.
The amount of noise will increase, particularly at night because of the cargo operations, but most of the impact will be felt in areas slated for industrial and commercial development, according to the plan***
Need I say more??
A nice corporate tax break on fuel when our prices climb by 5cents a liter and the dictators in Victoria legislate teachers.
Had enough yet people?
Folks did you happen to notice that the economy tanked thanks to the money lenders. That caused air cargo to tank and is still recovering. Once the warehousing is finished up at the airport then the whining will start about the noise of aircraft.
I am still waiting for them to say the runway needs repaving because of old age. With nary a plane on it to wear it out.
Anyone who builds by an airport, even a small one shouldn’t complain about the noise since they knew what they were getting into. If an airport was built after they moved there, then they can whine.
Seamutt. What warehousing at the Airport.? As far as I know none hase been started. If you havent started it, how can you finish it??
The Global Economy excuse is running pretty thin. Vancouver AirPort has added three direct flights a week from Vancr to Bejing last year. These are passenger flights but they also handle cargo. The key word here is **added** which means they had other direct flights.
Have a nice day.
Palopu, Boeing read area.
Seamutt. Nothing happening on Boeing Road when I went by a couple of weeks ago.
The Gas Storage Tank Farm that was to be completed last fall had not yet started, and no sign of any 25000 sq ft building.
Perhaps later this year???
