4 Laning of 97 Between Sintich and Old Cariboo Goes to Tender

Prince George, B.C.- The move to four lane the stretch of highway 97 between Sintich Road and the Old Cariboo highway has taken another step forward.
The project will go to tender this week.
This project will widen about 3.5 kms of Highway 97 to four lanes and will include intersection improvements along that stretch.
The work is expected to start this year, and by completed next summer.
The expansion will tie into the existing five km of four-lanes from the Simon Fraser Bridge to Sintich Road, completed in 2010 as part of Phase 1 of the Cariboo Connector program.

So what about the railway underpasses?
Railway underpasses are phase 150 of this project. Your great, great grandchildren will see this project completed on their way to visit your grave side.
All the road projects are into and out of populated areas, and are nothing more than a blatant attempt to get some votes.
The traffic on 97 South has decreased dramatically in the past 5/10 years, and one could make a case for doing nothing, however thats not in the cards.
The money should in reality be spent on highway 16 West thats where the action is.
The Government is approx 10 years behind what is actually taking place in the interior. They doubled the Simon Fraser bridge and moved the scale, after the traffic from and to the BC Rail Industrial Park was reduced by about 3000 vehicles per day. With the huge decrease in traffic the twinning of the bridge was probably not necessary, however whats done is done.
I suppose that once the new plant in Kitimat, the Endako mines expansion, the Highway 37 powerline project, the Port Expansion in Pr Rupert, are all complete, they will then start work on 16 West.
I just trucked down there on Friday, and they are working on on the railway underpasses. Be patient, Scumbell said it was going to be a 40 year project!
It’s about time — this should have been 4 lanes 20 years ago.
Who’s scumbell??

The tax payers own the underpasses and tracks so watch CN sue us for rail disruption. The underpass just past the weigh scales is right in the slide area that had a big problem a few years ago. That will be one expensive short piece of highway by the time they move them tracks to where they need to be.
