Graduation Day at CNC

Saturday, May 12, 2012 @ 4:27 AM
Prince George, B.C. – A total of 224 CNC graduates are expected to attend today’s 2012 convocation ceremony at 2 p.m. at the CN Centre.

Highlights from the ceremony will include CNC’s first graduating class from the Mining Industry Certificate program, which is made up of students from Fort St. James.  Sstudents in the college’s third medical laboratory technology class have just returned from their one-year practicum placements and will participate in the ceremony.

“The number of students who are participating in this year’s convocation is only a fraction of those who actually graduate every year,” CNC President John Bowman said. “Many cannot participate because of work or other commitments.”

The Governor General’s Academic Collegiate Bronze Medal and the Lieutenant Governor’s Silver Medal will also be presented. The Governor General’s Academic Collegiate Bronze Medal is awarded to the CNC student who achieves the highest overall average upon graduation from a diploma-level, post-secondary program. Medical laboratory technology student Jacqueline Schellenberg is this year’s recipient who earned a perfect 4.33 GPA.

The Lieutenant Governor’s Silver Medal is awarded to a CNC student in a vocational or career program that is less than two years long, who has excelled in his or her studies and who has contributed to the life of their post-secondary institution or their community. Early childhood education student Elena Norris will receive this medal after she earned a perfect GPA of 4.33.

The Mary John Award of Excellence, presented annually to a CNC student who strives to live with dignity while serving others and their community, will also be announced.
