Mackenzie, B.C. – A 28 year old male has been arrested in Mackenzie BC on a Canada Wide warrant for breach of parole.
Derek Arthur Mitchell was on parole in Alberta, and a Canada wide warrant had been issued for violating that parole.
Police in Mackenzie have recently responded to a number of theft from vehicle complaints as well as reports of a male seen trespassing through yards at night. On one occasion a home owner ran after the suspect but the victim and Police were unable to locate him.
Earlier this week, an off duty member located a cell phone in their vehicle after someone had broken in and rummaged through their property. The suspect had inadvertently left their cell phone on the seat.
Police tracked down the owner of the cell phone and he was identified as Derek Arthur Mitchell from Alberta.
On May 9, 2012 Mitchell was taken into custody without incident when he left the Mackenzie residence to attend a local business.
Mitchell could also be facing numerous theft charges as the RCMP continue to investigate the theft from vehicles. The Alberta Parole Board is also looking at forwarding charges against Mitchell for being unlawfully at large.
