CNC Fundraiser for Lakeland Starts at 11:00 this Morning

Tuesday, May 15, 2012 @ 3:55 AM
Prince George, B.C.- The Professional Cook Students at the College of New Caledonia will have the grills hot and ready today as they plan to have a sizzler of a fundraiser for the Lakeland Mill Fire Assistance Fund.

From 11 this morning until 2:00 this afternoon, there will be a barbecue, silent auction and live entertainment in the college’s courtyard and Atrium.

Nearly $15,000 worth of items will be available through the silent auction.

Silent auction items include a $3,000 Whistler Travel Package, which includes round-trip airfare from Uniglobe Sunburst Travel for two from Prince George to Vancouver; airport transfer to and from Whistler from PWTransit; two nights in a deluxe studio suite at the Pinnacle Hotel; two two-day lift passes at Whistler Blackcomb and a $100 gift card to Cinnamon Bear Bar & Grille.

Other silent auction items include: a variety of hotel packages at the Ramada Prince George; a suite at a Cougars game courtesy of the City of Prince George; an electric boat motor from Northern Hardware & Furniture; four rounds of golf at Aberdeen Glen and DJ services from Tyecon Tunes.

“The outpouring of support has been absolutely amazing,” said one of the student organizers, Narissa Muxlow, a CNC Professional Cook student. “All of us know someone who was affected by this tragedy. We want to raise as much as possible and help all of the families. I must thank all of my fellow Professional Cook students who helped so much with this event.”

For a minimum $10 donation, people will receive either a barbecued hamburger or hot dog, a variety of salads, desserts and a drink. Many local companies have donated food, including Save-On Foods and Costco.

PWTransit is also providing a shuttle between Pine Centre Mall and CNC’s campus beginning at 10:30 this morning.

When Professional Cook students first posted the event on Facebook two weeks ago, donations started pouring in as did those who said they’d attend. As of Monday morning, about 900 people said they planned on attending the BBQ.

And with the changes coming to EI, the workers that haven’t or cant find a job in the coming months will have another thing to worry about!

I have to agree with BCRacer. The fund was last reported at $155K yet none of the affected families have seen any of this money.
