Hundreds March to Protest Enbridge

Monday, July 9, 2012 @ 6:13 PM

Protesters prepare to  get  march underway – photo- Opinion250

Prince George, B.C. – About 250 peole gathered at J.O. Wilson Square in front of the Prince George Courthouse  this evening, to start their march to the  Prince George Civic Centre.

The Civic Centre is where  the  Joint Review Panel is holding it’s community  hearings on the proposed  Northern Gateway Pipeline  project, a project  put forth by Enbridge.

Carrying Signs  that  read messages such as  "free radical" ( a reference to Prime Minister Harper’s  comment that those who oppose the pipeline are  environmental radicals)  and "fish oil, not  Alberta oil", they made their way  west on 3rd Avenue,  south on Brunswick  east on 7th, and  south into the  entrance of the Civic Square.

The Jont review Panel is to resume hearings this evening at 7 and  again tomorrow morning.

Earlier today, at the first round of hearings,   the JRP was told of fears of  pipeline breaks,  of what an oil spill will do to the pristine  areas through which it is proposed.  They  talked of concerns about the  rough waters in Hecate Strait,  wave action with  UNBC   Professor Peter Jackson  called  "some of the worst in the world".

Earlier today it was learned the JRP cancelled its  plans for a community hearing in Hazelton  at the end of this month. That hearing has now been moved to Smithers because of concerns  over security.  This will be the second time the hearings have  been  moved, or cancelled because of security concerns.  You may recall the hearings set for Bella Bella were called off when the Panel  arrived in that community and felt "threatened."

I wonder how these protesters got there? By automobile would be my guess.

Seems a huge drop from the 500 to 600 that demonstrated in Septemter 2010.

It was thought that if the rally was held at 5PM they would get a biggar crowd than the last time because people would be off work.??

So much for that idea.

Typical RUEZ comment! Makes absolutely no sense RUEZ, why bother?

Dragonmaster, how does RUEZ comment not make sence? If you are against the Oil and Gas industry, you should practice a oil-free lifestyle. I think Ruez would have been happier to see the protesters all bike down to the courthouse. Makes sence to me.

Pipeline is comming… I hope we at least see some benifit from it.

@RUEZ when was the last time you filled your car with Bitumen? Seriously get educated before you comment and look like an uneducated hick!

Great Turn out Guys! People Power!

250 out of 72,000? Maybe the people who didn’t show up had to get home in time to watch Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Maybe there weren’t as many people out because:
They had to pick up the kids at daycare

Had to get home from their job to get supper ready for their “significant other”.
(Notice I wasn’t sexist and said hubby.)

Had to get home because it is their turn to water tonight

Forgot.

Couldn’t find a parking space for their F-350s

Had to stop off at the supermarket or Costco for more charcoal propane for their BBQ.

Maybe they didn’t hear about it.

Too hot.

Apathy? Maybe. Better luck next time.

Anyone ever try using “fish oil” for their F-350? The world can exist on fish oil, solar panels and wind turbines. Right?

Faulty computer. Honest.

Those of us opposed to the Northern Gateway pipeline do not propose that the entire oil industry should be shut down. The objections are to this particular project. There is therefore nothing hypocritical or ironic about us driving gasoline-powered vehicles or otherwise using oil derivatives. If you want to argue for this project, by all means do so, but you just make yourself look silly if you argue against straw men.

And how many showed up for the pro-Enbridge rally?

Actually, 250 people turning up to march through this town is pretty impressive to me, especially in light of the demographics of this town. Protesting is a young persons proper providence, but I bet there was thousands more their with them in spirit.

You all get a standing O from me.

I was planning to go but stayed home for health reasons: Air pollution and extreme heat, bad combination for me and perhaps a few more people.

I interpret the first comment as a harmless bit of sarcasm, tongue-in-cheek! It’s not a worthwhile contribution to what should be a focus on a very serious matter.

One of the first anti-hst rallies in Prince George had 100 people show up for it.

Harper is a failed politician, from majority to third party status in 4 year..

Harperism is dead, the last demographic not online are the grey haired ghosts, like Harper`s support..

The grey wave is dying off as fast as Harper`s oil-land wet dream.

Mulcair leading Nationally 38% to Harper`s 32%..

Now the latest poll from Eastern Canada, NDP leading Labrador and New Foundland..

65% NDP

Conservatives 17%

What to do Cristy fencepost Clark..You want the BC Liberal name changed, as Liberal is toxic, you allowed Harper demonic seeds to germinate in your office when the Harper plants are now classified as evasive species in need of eradication..

What to do Christy Clark..

Here`s a novel idea….Fight for the people of British Columbia..

80% want Enbridge`s gateway to hell burned out of existence..

Despite what BC Liberal press release central(Opinion250) and Missing link candidates in Prince George think.

Adios Enbridge…Adios Pat Bell, Shirley Bond, and every other..

Wow reeger, you do realize that the substance from the oil sands gets refined further into products like gasoline and diesel? That’s the whole point of the pipeline, to transport it to a refinery. Grow a brain.

ciminalmind, what have you been smoking. It’s only been one year since the Conservatives even won their majority. I’m not sure what this article has to do with Harper, you’re probably one of those lefty nuts we hear so much about.

Right 250 isa good show for me. Sad that there is so much apathy in our midst.

Chjeers

Wow RUEZ! 39% is sure a big majority to go out and give away our resources. If you do not know what the article has to do with Harper then I can only assume you have been hiding under a rock or just need to grow a brain. You sound like one of those right wing nutjobs when you label someone a lefty nut because they do not agree with your old ideas. I like how if you are against pollution and oil spills etc. you are now called an eco-TERRORIST!

All this BS about Harper is getting boring.

Firstly the NDP and Muclair is going nowhere. The NDP was more surprised than anyone else when they made the big gains in Quebec in the last election, and I would be willing to bet that at least 50% of that support will disapear in the next election.

The NDP is idea challenged, and can do nothing for Canadians except to raise their taxes, and hire a bunch of do nothings to sit on their butts in Ottawa, and pretend they are working.

For all the BS flying around about Harper, there are very few people who voted for him, now saying they wont vote for him again. Do you know what this means??? Another Harper majority in four years.

If you want to keep the Country moving, vote for Harper. If you want to sit on your butt and contemplate your navel, vote for Muclair, or Trudeau, or Bob Rae, or some other left leaning do nothing politician.

Well I drive an F-250 and I am opposed to Embridges pipeline, I am also a logger and am opposed to raw log export. Seems kind of the same thing. I am opposed to the Northern Gateway because I think pipeing Bitumen is just too dangerous, I think it needs to refined at or very near source in order for it to be more safely piped. I think my brain is grown sufficiently to think refining at source could serve three purposes RUEZ, more jobs for Canadians more tax money for Canadians, and safer products being piped around our country. As for raw log export I think those logs should either stay standing or be milled in BC. I do not think jobs trump everything! What’s with the “lefty nuts” comments RUEZ, are you some kind of righty neo-con lunatic, maybe you need to grow a brain RUEZ?

oops, typo..

Harper is a failed politician, from majority to third party status in 1 year of 4 year term..

Harper is in freefall, need proof?

“The New Democrats have increased their lead over the governing Conservatives to four points according to a new survey.

The new poll by Forum Research conducted on May 23 shows NDP support remaining steady at 36 per cent while the Conservatives have slipped one point to 32 per cent since the firm’s last poll of April 24-25. The Liberals, at 20 per cent, have dropped two points.”

http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2012/05/28/ndp-leading-tories-poll-forum_n_1550775.html

And it gets even worse for the dying Harper cult..Quebec is a sea of orange, how about eastern Canada?

___________

“Federally, the New Democrats under Thomas Mulcair have picked up 16 points since the May 2011 election to lead with 49 per cent, well ahead of the Liberals. They have slipped four points to 34 per cent support, while the Conservatives are down 11 points to only 17 per cent in the province.

While the drop in support for the Tories puts the party in range of their low mark of 16.5 per cent from the 2008 federal election, when the Conservatives were hampered by then-Premier Danny Williams’ campaign against them, the New Democrats are well above their best-ever result of 34 per cent from that same year.

The NDP is absolutely dominant in the St. John’s area, where they have 65 per cent support (up five points since the election). They are trailed at length by the Liberals with 20 per cent (a gain of three points) and the Tories with 15 per cent, a decrease in support of seven points.”

Ruez, you and Johnny are a dying breed, stale old bread, the NEB has to refuse Enbridge Gateway, Harper will overrule, the lawsuits will be filed and Harper will be sitting on the curb in 3 years wondering what happened, was it a dream, or nightmare..

Enbridge and Alberta oil must go east, fill Canada`s 1 million barrels per day import deficit first, refine it here..

Ruez, must be sad to be you, a life devoid of thought or a future, a willow in the wind being blown by the prevailing breeze, no mental ability to stand on thought or dreams.

A wind blown tumbleweed named Ruez

any time you need to jump into bed with newfies and quebecors politically, you know you’re in trouble.

I wonder how many of those protesters have jobs?

@Palopu….You see all those Anti-Mulcair ads the Federal CONservatives are running, three years from an election..You know what that is Papolu?

That is FEAR, Harper is scared shitless with the polling numbers, Harper has barely started his agenda and he`s in opposition territory, this time next year Harper will be in Mulrooney territory…Wiped out of existence.

Imagine that, Adrian Dix with 70 Provincial NDP held seats, soon to followed by a large Thomas Mulcair Federal NDP majority..

Looks like you`ll have to move to Alabama or West Virginia, perhaps making moonshine and shooting turtles is more your speed…

Half-Slow

“And how many showed up for the pro-Enbridge rally?”

Most of them were too busy working for a living.

I work. I showed up. Are you working for a living JohnnyBelt?

Tomorrow at 6PM- Rally in front of City Hall in support of Enbridge. See you there JohnnyBelt!

You might be the only one though!

Criminal, who pays you to spam this topic?

Looked more like a 100 to me. Wow big turnout. Took me back to the sixties, oh wait, if I said I remember the sixties I wasen’t there. Dam flashbacks.

Cursing denotes a lack of command of the English language. Just so ya know.

Nice picture to top this story with Ben. These ‘protestors’…never had a job, never will and don’t want one. They are having a great life however, living off the backs of all you anti-pipe tree huggers.
The chiefs will all get onside eventually after ENB finalizes the personal ‘consulting fees’ going to the band councils. For example, the Mcleaod Lake council will become very wealthy what with the current kickbacks from Terraine and the soon to come payments from Enbridge. Basic racketeering and all you nice nice ndp folk helping them out

The NEB has been stripped of all powers by – you guessed it – Steve. It can make pronouncements but the new majority government does not have to pay any attention or follow any of them. What counts is that one person – you guessed it – has authorized himself to make the final decision.

By making the pre-consultation statement (“those who oppose the pipeline are environmental radicals”) he has at least done us the favour of removing any doubts which some people still had what the final decision is going to look like.

Anything from now on is just window dressing to create a political spin of apparent democracy.

Have you seen the writeup,on CBC on how Enbrigde worked the pipeline break near the Kalamazoo River in Michigan. They are refered to as “Keystone Cops” by the environmental review board in the US.

Nice post Criminal. bad language.
Cheers

The people in pictures of anit-Enbridge protesters change with the way the camera is pointed, which pictures taken are selected for publication, and where the protests actually are – Toronto, Vancouver, Victoria, Kitimat, Prince George, etc.

Each has its own “visible minorities” from which people who want to put others down for their beliefs can chose from.

The Rocker99 of this world are no different from those in the pictures. Both are making their opinions known to others around them. Some by typing on a computer, others by standing on a street.

The difference is that
1. the protesters are protesting an action they feel strong enough about to actually move their butts from A to B, while
2. the Rocker99’s of this world can make their point only by putting other human beings down based on some sketchy assumptions.

When it comes to this pipeline, you are either with us or the child pornographers! Hmmm, well wait a minute, maybe that should be the radical environmentalists! How about radical environmentalists who produce child pornography? Yeah, that’s the ticket! You are either with us or THEM.

Criminal Mind. If you are a knock em down, dyed in the wool old time CCF supporter or a new fangled NDP Supporter, then of course you will beleive all the BS that you are spewing. What else can you do??

Fact of the matter is Harper, and the Conservative party could care less about the NDP or Muclair. He is a flash in the pan. Quebec will kick him out the first chance they get.

Harper has managed to form a majority Government without the help of Quebec. This is an amazing feat. In additon he was able to stay in power with two minority Governments, plus the present majority. So in effect he will have been the Prime Minister of Canada for some 10 years by the time we go to another election.

Imagine 10 years as Prime Minister. How many years has the NDP been in power??? How many NDP Prime Ministers have we had??

Let me guess NONE. Wonder why?? Because they have nothing to offer except increased taxes, and socialized buffoonery. 90% of the NDP politicians are on some form of Government (taxpayers) payroll, or some Union payroll. If they had to make it on their own it would be pretty slim pickens.

Who in Western Canada, would vote for a Quebec politician, who would ensure that Quebec goes back to getting all the money??? Didnt we learn from Trudeau, Chretian, Martin, et al???

The West is in. Lets keep it in.

One thing is for sure, if there ever was a “unite the left” type campaign, this iteration of the “Conservative Party” would never see power again.

It must be frustrating to realize that one’s fortunes rest solely upon the incompetence of others. Credit Harper for taking advantage of the situation.

Well Pal I have often wondered what your colour is but now we know.Plain and simple Harper is a dictator and he is doing more damage to our countruy then even that last PC we had.

I didnt think that you were one of the elites that support Harper Pal. But the world is full of wana-bes. You certainly fooled a lot of people with all the effort that you put into AAp. How can you be so nieve to support a guy like Haper who is out to desrtroy the middle class.
Cheers
