Search on For Cause of Duplex Fire

Tuesday, July 24, 2012 @ 9:18 AM
Prince George, B.C. – Efforts are underway to determine the cause of a duples fire in the city this morning.

Just before 5 a.m  15 Firefighters from 3 halls responded to a confirmed fire in a duplex in the 1400 block of McCullagh Avenue. The first-arriving crews found smoke and flames at the rear of both dwelling units. Five occupants of one side and one occupant of the other side had evacuated safely.

The bulk of the fire was quickly knocked down with an aggressive interior attack. The fire had extended into the attic space along the common wall between the two units. A special nozzle was used to inject water into the attic space while the roof was kept intact to contain the fire and minimize damage from water and firefighting efforts. The fire was extinguished within approximately 2 hours, and overhaul continues to eliminate all hot spots.

Investigators are now on scene to determine the cause of the fire. A damage estimate is not yet available.
