Man Dies While Out For A Jog In Stewart

Saturday, August 4, 2012 @ 3:58 AM

Prince George, BC – It appears an unfortunate misstep culminated with the death of a 24-year-old Lower Mainland man in the small northwestern community of Stewart, BC.

RCMP and the BC Coroners Service continue to investigate, but RCMP Senior Media Relations Officer, Corporal Dan Moskaluk, says information gathered from witnesses suggests the man had apparently crossed Highway 37, to move out of the pathway of a truck that was approaching from behind.  Moskaluk says it appears he jumped over a concrete barrier at the outside edge of the road, apparently unaware of the 10-metre drop on the other side.

The constable says the tide was out and the man landed on the rocks below.  First Aid was provided by a witness, passers-by, and paramedics who arrived on scene.  A crane truck and basket was used to lift the critically injured man back onto the roadway above, where he was transported to the hospital in Stewart.  He died there as a result of his injuries.

The 24-year-old was from Pitt Meadows.  His family has requested that his name not be released.

Constable Moskaluk says alcohol and drugs were not factors in this tragedy and foul play is not suspected.

Stewart RCMP are thanking all those who provided assistance on-scene and are offering a special thank you to Soucie Construction for the use of the crane truck and equipment.

OMG that is just so sad :( condolences.

Unfortunately, no one knows when their time is up. It is always sad for those left behind. Physical life has only one guarantee – the end of it.
