Prince George, BC – The Huble Homestead is throwing a huge old-fashioned bash today and tomorrow to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the historic Huble house.
Visitors to the National Historic Site will be transported back in time, as the house that Albert Huble built for his wife, Annie, comes to life every hour with a little help from members of Nechako Community Theatrics this weekend. Guided tours will highlight the important people who lived ad worked at the Portage 100-years ago.
Both days will feature pioneer demonstrations, games, contests, and children’s crafts, as well as a ‘boxed lunch’ social (a lunch auction) at noon. Today, a special centennial ceremony will begin at 12:30, followed by a cake-cutting. And the Northern Twisters Square Dancers will do-si-do at 1pm.
More than $100 dollars in prizes are up for grabs in an afternoon of old-fashioned races and contests for all ages that include: the 50-yard dash and the shoe race.
The homestead is located 40-kilometres north of Prince George, off Highway 97 on Mitchell Road. It’s open from 10am until 5pm every day this summer, and admission is by donation, with a suggestion of $10 per family.
