Prince George, BC – The school day will get off to a great start for a number of children in Quesnel, thanks to a healthy donation to the Quesnel Partnership for Student Nutrition.

The non-profit agency runs a breakfast club program in a number of Quesnel schools, serving a good start to the day for approximately 500 kids.

President, Christy Kennedy, just recently received word that Quesnel program was one of 15 across the country selected to receive a grant from the RCMP Foundation and Kraft Foods of Canada to support community-based breakfast programs for at-risk and low income youth.

Quesnel RCMP Constable, Krista Vrolyk, presented Kennedy with a cheque for $5500 to bolster the program for the upcoming school year. (photo courtesy Quesnel RCMP)

RCMP Foundation President and CEO, Fred Smerjian, says, "Research has shown that starting a child’s day with a healthy breakfast not only improves their health, but also their academic performance."

Constable Vrolyk says the donation means Quesnel youth taking part in the program will arrive in their classrooms this fall fueled with healthy food and ready to learn.

"This will undoubtedly have a positive impact both in and out of the classroom."
