Maple Ridge, B.C.- The Waldun Forest Products Mill in Maple Ridge has been destroyed by fire.
Crews responded to word of a blaze at the cedar shake and shingle mill just after midnight last night. There were no injuries reported. The mill has about 250 employees.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and investigators are trying to determine if this blaze started in an area that had been undergoing some maintenance work on Saturday.
This is the third serious mill fire in B.C. this year. An explosion and blaze claimed two lives and destroyed the Babine Forest Products Mill in January, two more lives were lost when the Lakeland sawmill in Prince George was destroyed following an explosion and fire in April.

The mill deals with cedar and cedar shakes as well.
Anything to do with western red cedar always was a volatile business.
Red Cedar = perfect kindling.

I do remember hearing about that mill fire last year. Don’t remember who reported it, maybe CBC.
