Super Day For Parkison’s Superwalk
Prince George, BC – Parkinson’s Disease is the second-most common chronic neuro-degenerative disorder after Alzheimer’s…
Today, members of the local support group are hopeful the sunshine will draw a crowd to their major fundraiser of the year – the Parkinson Superwalk in Fort George Park.
Organizer, Ron Corbett, has a very personal reason for becoming involved, "My dad has Parkinson’s Disease – he’s been living with it for about eight years now."
Corbett says there is no government funding provided for research or support efforts. While Superwalks are held across the country at this time of year, the local organizer says the money raised in BC, stays in the province, going to the non-profit Parkinson’s Society of BC.
Registration for today’s walk begins at 12noon, near the picnic shelter in the park. Corbett says many members of the group have been raising funds through pledge forms, but lots of participants make lump sum donations when they come down to join in the walk.
In addition, the Telus Community Ambassadors will be selling hot dogs, with all proceeds going directly to the fundraiser. The annual event typically attracts about 40 people, so Corbett is hopeful this year’s event will meet, or even beat, that target given today’s wonderful weather forecast.

Is any of the money raised actually used to assist people with Parkinson’s Disease, like Ron Corbett’s dad?
