Timberwolves Blasted on Home Turf
Over 100 spectators, including UNBC president George Iwama, joined the Timberwolves women’s soccer team for their first CIS home opener on Saturday. Although the Timberwolves were not successful, falling to an 0-2-1 record, support from the community and university was apparent.
Timberwolves keeper Jordan Hall was put under immense pressure throughout the game. With a total of 16 saves, Hall was one of the hardest working players on the field.
The Vikes got a two-goal performance from Linsday Hoetzel in the first half followed by a hat trick from Emma Greig in the second half.
A tough defensive line for the UNBC squad showed some promise. Tanya Grob, UNBC player of the game, made her presence known on the field. Grob battled it out with the visitors, making sure they had to work for every point.
The Timberwolves next game is Sunday when they take on the University of Fraser Valley Cascades at the North Cariboo Soccer Fields at 12 noon.
