Chilly With Plenty of Sun For The Terry Fox Run

Sunday, September 16, 2012 @ 11:37 AM
Prince George, B.C. – They came on bicycles, roller blades, skateboards, in buggies and on good old dependable feet.

Hundreds of Prince George residents, some of them cancer patients, others cancer survivors and their supporters, turned out at Community Foundation Park at 7th and Dominion for the 32nd annual Terry Fox run. Their aim: to continue the campaign of Terry Fox to raise the money to find a cure for cancer. So far, since Terry ran his Marathon of Hope in 1980, more than $600 million has been raised toward that cause.

And despite an overnight low below freezing which led to a chill in the air this morning, those taking part seemd to take it all in stride, apparently with the knowledge that one warms up fairly quickly on a 5k trek.  They proceeded from 7th and Dominion, up to Patricia Boulevard, circled the pathway around Fort George Park, over to 17th Avenue, back over to Patricia and a return to the Terry Fox statue at Community Foundation Park.

Although final totals are not yet in on the number of participants and the amount of money raised, this year’s event in Prince George, run in conjunction with similar events across BC and Canada, can, by the turnout, be termed a resounding success.

A great cause and it looks like perfect weather for a run!
