Cougars Silvertips Part 2
The Prince George Cougars and Everett Silvertips meet for the second time in as many nights tonight at the Comcast Arena. The Cougars earned a 6-0 victory in last night’s contest, and will look to get the weekend sweep with two more points tonight. They can take numerous positives from last night into tonight’s game, but it’s important that the Cougars realize that Everett is going to come at them hard.
Overview:
The Silvertips are 0-1-0-0 on the young season, and are looking to bounce back from a 6-0 loss on home ice last night. Everett was outshot 33-25 last night, and finished zero-for-three on their powerplay opportunities.
Who’s Up Front:
The most dangerous trio for Everett last night was Josh Winquist, Cody Fowlie and Reid Petryk. They put on some good pressure early on, and made life tough on the opposition. Though they weren’t rewarded for their efforts, you can expect those three to bring a strong effort tonight.
Who’s on D:
Much of the defensive attention for Everett goes to Ryan Murray, and rightfully so. But his defense partner Austin Adam is also a player to watch and take note of. Adam brings a strong combination of size and smarts, and he can only gain more confidence being paired alongside the aforementioned Murray. Austin Adam and Ryan Murray will have to be strong tonight if the Everett Silvertips want to earn a split with the Cougars.
Who’s In Goal:
Austin Lotz got the start for Everett last night, and stopped 18 of the 23 shots he faced through the first 40 minutes. Cole Holowenko took over in the third period, and stopped nine of the 10 shots that he faced in the final period. Whichever goaltender Mark Ferner decides to go with tonight will be hoping for a bounce-back outing.
X-Factor:
The big factor for Everett tonight is going to be discipline. Everett was shorthanded eight times last night, and for a team on home ice, that number is simply too high. If they can keep their composure and not let their tempers get the best of them, the Silvertips will be poised for a better result tonight.
Overview:
Dean Clark’s Prince George Cougars are 1-0-0-0 on the season after an impressive 6-0 victory in last night’s game. The Cougars were one-for-eight on the powerplay and killed off all three penalties that they took. They were able to silence the crowd early, and play their style of game. If they can replicate the positives from last night, they’ll put themselves in a great position to secure another two points.
Who’s Up Front:
What a debut for Cougars forward Colin Jacobs. The 19-year-old product of Coppell, Texas scored three goals, and added two assists. Jacobs and his linemate Alex Forsberg found instant chemistry together, and regardless of who their other winger was, they were able control the tempo of the game, and create a ton of offensive opportunities. Another similar effort from those two would go along way to ensure a Cougars victory.
Who’s On D:
Defensively one-through-six the Cougars were solid during last night’s victory. They blocked shots, contained their zone, and did not make too many poor decisions with the puck. Dallas Ehrhardt and Dan Gibb logged a lot of key minutes, and made life very difficult for the Everett forwards. Ehrhardt became the first Cougars defenceman to earn a point when he assisted on Colin Jacobs’ hatrick goal.
Who’s In Goal:
As far as debuts go, you’d be hard pressed to find a better one than 17-year-old goaltender Brett Zarowny’s. Zarowny was solid early, and kept the door shut when Everett had some early pressure. From there he was solid the rest of the way and earned his first career victory and first career shutout in the process.
X-Factor:
The trio of Troy Bourke, Jari Erricson and Daulton Siwak were held scoreless in last night’s game, but it wasn’t for a lack of chances and effort. These three were very effective on the powerplay, and were simply unable to cash in. Three players of that caliber will not be silenced for long, and hopefully tonight is the night for Bourke, Siwak and Erricson to get on the board.
