Prince George, B.C. – Family, friends and people with a love of trains turned out Saturday to honour a man who, just like them, had a passion for transportation on rails.
The Prince George Railway and Forestry Museum held a dedication opening the new Don Holzworth terrace. It honours Holzworth for his devoted work for the museum society from 1986 until his sudden passing during a museum planning meeting on February 27th, 2008. Holzworth, who worked for BC Rail for 27 years, was the park manager at the railway museum and had also served as the engineer on the steam engine in Fort George Park.
Speaker after speaker rose to tell the assembled audience little anecdotes that exemplified Holzworth’s love of trains, love of people, and love of a good sense of humour and jovial kidding around. Museum Society board member Kirk Gable told the crowd that “it’s appropriate that the first thing you see when you come out into the museum yard is this terrace in Don’s memory.”
Prince George-Valemount MLA Shirley Bond, who was born and raised in Prince George and who knows the Holzworth family well, related how Don was liked by everyone he met and how he enjoyed doing things well.
The Railway and Forestry Museum thanks the Prince George Community Foundation, Carrier Lumber, The Northern, the local community, friends and family for ensuring the Don Holzworth Terrace project was completed.
