Interim City Manager Named

Prince George, B.C.- The City of Prince George has announced Kathleen Soltis will take over the duties of Acting City Manager, effective October 17th.  
Kathleen with take on the duties in addition to her responsibilities as Director of Corporate Services until Council appoints a permanent City Manager.
The recruitment process continues and is expected to take  4 to 6 months.  Current City Manager Derek Bates had announced he would not be renewing his contract at the end of the year,  and will be departing soon as he takes his  earned vacation time.

….very little planning takes place anywhere under that roof why would this area be any different?

Derek made his announcement several months ago, so I think he has been fair about it. Its reasonable time line.

It’s tough to fill a position that nobody wants…

Hopefully they will find someone to do the job not just fill the position, there is a big difference.

Timing is not ideal as it would be nice to have the new person in place at the completion of the core review, but IMO it will be near the middle of next year before that happens.

Biggest fear it that they will take the easiest path and just remove the interim from Kathleen’s title like they did at IPG.

Or they may keep the interim indefinitely – might be part of the Core Review – aka gut City Hall just to save money.

And this is a serious question,will you apply Gus?
