Prince George, B.C. – Highway 5, 18 kms south of Blue River, is once again closed due to a vehicle sliding off the road.
This is the fifth such incident in that area since 8pm Tuesday night. Two similar incidents occurred on Highway 16 east near Mount Robson provincial park. And another two were on highway 5 near Valemount. RCMP Constable Ryan Walker says fortunately there have been no injuries in any of the incidents.
Road conditions to the east have been extremely poor in the past 24 hours. Const. Walker says highway maintenance crews have been out in force, and conditions have been improving in the past 3 to 4 hours. The two incidents near Valemount this morning involved tractor trailer units jackknifing on icey roads.
Const. Walker is encouraging motorists to drive according to weather conditions. He says he ticketed one driving for doing 115kms per hour on the slippery highway this afternoon.
Drive BC expects the highway near Blue River will re-open at 4:30 this afdternoon.
