Fall Back Tonight: Warning With Time Change
Prince George, BC – As we get ready to roll back our clocks tonight for the end of Daylight Savings Time, both the provincial government and ICBC are warning drivers to be extra cautious over the next few days…
A psychologist with ICBC says there is a 10-percent increase in the average number of crashes in the Lower Mainland during the late afternoon commute in the two weeks following the fall time change. Dr. John Vavrik says the crash rate increase is not as pronounced in other regions of the province, where road conditions become more challenging earlier in the season.
While the time change does present an opportunity for an extra hour of sleep, according to an ICBC survey, 30-percent of drivers stay up later; therefore, losing out on any potential benefits of that opportunity.
With the end of Daylight Savings Time, BC drivers will be dealing with darker evening commutes in poor weather conditions. Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, Mary Polak, says, "We have to recognize that the time change does increase our risk of being in a crash, so plan ahead and use extra caution to help keep you and your family safe."

Stop the insanity then and quit doing the time change in the spring!
I agree there is no need to change the time just a pain in the a$$ IMHO of course.
I agree with NoWay and acrider. There is absolutely no need to keep doing this.
Daylight Savings Time …. maybe it is actually Daylight Shifting time.
So with daylight coming earlier, why would there not be a decrease in crashes in the morning since people who are slow to wake up will now be more awake if one agrees with the evening theory.?
Leave the time alone, no need to change it.
The US imposed Daylight Savings Time on Japan during the occupation. The first thing the Japanese government did when the occupation came to an end was get rid of it.
Saskatchewan has always given the single digit salute to Daylight Savings. Never had it and there’s no pressing need for it now.
Great. More darkness. Why oh why do we persist with this lunacy? Having to do this every year for no sensible reason makes me angry. Forced stupidity is just not my thing. Rise up people, rise up!
Real farmers get up and go to bed with mother nature’s clock not with man made time pieces.
Move the clocks two hours back forever and be done with it. I hate getting up in the dark.
Let me correct myself…. Sask hasn’t had DST since 1972.
Like a lot of things, we only do it because the Americans do it. To keep all the computer systems in line.
Funny, pylot, So how do computers deal with time zones. Which came first, time change or computers?
OMG is the sky falling again???
Sorry Junco it’s the same amount darkness. If Sask can manage without doing it then so can we!
I would go the other way, I would much prefer more darkness in the morning. I hate coming home from work in the dark.
In winter I get up at night
and dress by yellow candle light.
In summer quite the other way
I have to go to bed by day.
Take yer probs up with Robert Louis Stevenson.
In the winter, I get up in the dark and come home in the dark. What’s the difference anyway?
In Prince George, unless you are on city council or work for the city, you’re always kept in the dark anyway.
So … what else is new?
Is it too late to get abolishing DST a referendum issue on the next Provincial election ballot?
I despise the time change. I felt sad driving home just after 5:00 and watching the sunset….Knowing that tomorrow it would only be after 4:00 and the sun would be disappearing.
It is the start of cabin fever season
I didn’t gain any sleep! My internal clock thinks its time to get up which is an hour earlier than I did yesterday (by the clock). So I say we do like the airlines and use GMT or whatever they call it these days!
There`s no DST north of Tudyah Lake Provincial Park either.
Everyone showed up more hung over this morning cause they had more time to drink last night…
Thank you douche bags who implement DST..
ICBC has a psychologist? O.o
