BC Spearheads Probe Into CyberBullying
Regina, Sask – BC Justice Minister and Attorney General, Shirley Bond, has asked for, and received, support for a national working group to examine cyberbullying at a federal-provincial ministers meeting in Regina.
Last month’s suicide of 15-year-old Port Coquitlam teenager, Amanda Todd – a victim of cyberbullying – was yet another tragic reminder of this ‘new face’ of bullying.
The national working group will consider whether Criminal Code revisions should be made to address the implications associated with online bullying.
"As promised, our province ensured that cyberbullying was on the meeting’s agenda as a topic for national discussion," says BC’s Attorney General.
"My colleagues recognized that this is an issue in all of our jurisdictions and, as a result of the discussion around the table, there was agreement to form a working group to explore whether there are gaps in the Criminal Code that could be addressed to assist police when dealing with the rapidly changing online world and social media."
