Prince Gorge, B.C.- The Air Quality Advisories for Prince George and Vanderhoof have been cancelled.
The provincial air quality objective for fine particles, PM2.5, is 25 micrograms per cubic metre, averaged over 24 hours.
In Prince George, the 24 hour PM2.5 rolling average was 18 µg/m3 at the Plaza 400 downtown site and 23 µg/m3 at College Heights at 10 am today.
In Vanderhoof it was 33 micrograms per cubic metre. Although the Vanderhoof rolling average still exceeds the provincial objectives, the hourly values have been below 20 micrograms per cubic metre for most of the time over the past 12 hours and the 24 hour rolling average is expected to drop.
The provincial air quality objective for coarse particles, PM10, is 50 micrograms per cubic metre, averaged over 24 hours. In Prince George, the 24 hour PM10 rolling average was 23 µg/m3 at the Plaza 400 downtown, 29 µg/m3 at College Heights and 32 µg/m3 at BCR at 10 am today.
Based on the air quality data, the high levels in both communities were mainly due to long range transport of smoke from open burning that originated west of Vanderhoof with some contribution from with local wood smoke and emissions from industry.
The end of the advisory in Prince George means the Free Fare for Clean Air program that provides free transit rides when there is an air quality advisory, will come to an end at midnight tonight.

It still stinks in the bowl.
The Air Quality Advisories do nothing to change the quality of the air. I suspect the rain we had today played a more important role than anything.
“The Air Quality Advisories do nothing to change the quality of the air”
They advise of the quality of the air, in case people can’t tell when they take a deep breath.
We should put up some windmills which can be activated when there is no air movement and they can suck the air from the bowl ….. ;-)
Right and there lighting bush piles up all around Prince George
