McBride, B.C. – The Cariboo Cougars opened the floodgates early Saturday with a four goal first period en route to a 6-0 win over the Thompson Blazers.

Nathan Warren stopped 17 shots for his second straight shutout and third of the season.

In front of a sold out Robson Valley Recreation Centre in McBride, the Cougars opened scoring six minutes into the first with Riley Pettitt’s fourth of the season as the Whitehorse forward drove to the net, beating Thompson goaltender Kyle Michalovksy.

Liam Blackburn scored his 12th of the season with six minutes to go in the frame from Brad Morrison and Donovan Law on the power play. Captain Ryan Forbes scored his sixth of the season just over two minutes later shorthanded, the Cats eighth goal on the year while down a man.  Michael Bell added his third goal in his last two games late in the opening frame to take a 4-0 lead into the second period.

The Cougars continued their dominating play in the middle frame with Bryan Allbee rewarded with his first Major Midget League goal from Pettitt and Eli Jarvis. Jarvis then capped off scoring late in the second with his fourth.

The Cougars outshot the Blazers by a whopping 63-17 margin.

The two rematch this afternoon at 2:30pm at the Robson Valley Recreation Centre.
