Celebrating Kids At The Family Y
Prince George, BC – The Prince George Family Y has some special events planned today to celebrate some of their youngest clients…
In prelude to National Child Day on Monday, the Y is hosting its 4th annual event marking the occasion with free activities for children up to 12 in the gym and Rec Room between 10am and 1pm today.
Director of Childcare Services, Lynette Mikalishen, says children are such a big part of the services offered at the Family Y. With no formal celebrations marking the national day in our city, Mikalishen says the Y decided to change that four years ago and highlight the importance children play in our society, and future.
She says most of the people involved in putting on today’s festivities are childcare staff and are volunteering their time to make the day special for local kids. "We have some incredible people – some of them will spend the whole day, some will give an hour or two – it just speaks to their dedication to children."
"When I look at my team and they all step forward, I just am so proud of them," adds Mikalishen.
Today’s activities are free and are open to all children.
