China Trip Amazing Says Mayor
Monday, December 3, 2012 @ 3:40 PM

Acting City Manager Kathleen Soltis, Mayor Shari Green, Councillors Lyn Hall and Dave Wilbur, and IPG’s Heather Oland meet with media
Prince George, B.C.- Back from China, and wanting to talk about it, the Prince George delegation huddled with members of the media this morning.
“It was amazing” said Mayor Shari Green, when asked about her impressions of Jiangmen, the city Prince George wants to make its “twin”. “It was beautiful, the people are amazing and culturally it was an incredible time, they were wonderful to us in every way.”
Mayor Green says if businesses in Prince George want to do business with Jiangmen, or vice versa, “If you don’t have the blessing of the Mayor (of Jiangmen) it is not going to happen for you” . Mayor Green says that is why the trip was meant to be a government to government exchange.
Councillors Lyn Hall and Dave Wilbur both offered high praise for the manner in which Mayor Green represented the City of Prince George.
Most of the potential business opportunities came in the education sector, with the potential for exchanging not only students, but teachers as well. That is something the City will now work with School District 57, CNC and UNBC to see if further steps can be taken to make it happen.
As for the business side, IPG’s Heather Oland says Jiangmen is a transportation hub for it’s region, so while it is much larger than Prince George ( it has a population of over 4 million), it is considered a “small” city by Chinese standards, and there was a great deal of interest expressed in the logistics, transportation and possible agricultural opportunities presented by the Prince George region.
Mayor Green says it is expected a delegation from Jiangmen will come to Prince George in late Spring of 2013 at which time Mayor Green expects there will be a formal signing of a twinning agreement “It will be a formal event” says the Mayor who says people should expect there will be more trips back and forth between the two cities “no one should be surprised by that.”
She pointed to the fact both Vancouver and Surrey have a twin city in China, and the B.C. communities have benefited by those connections. Councillor Hall says the journey was proactive “Do we stand in line and wait and wait, or do we take the bull by the horns?”

Still not sure what “twinning” will do for us except cost us money on trips and hosting.
“She pointed to the fact both Vancouver and Surrey have a twin city in China, and the B.C. communities have benefited by those connections” HOW ?
What they fail to understand is all this money comes from the same taxpayer, twin my ass we get it on both cheeks.
What about our other 3 twin cities?
BC Local Governments Twinnings Inventory dated October 2010 shows we have 3 current sister cities, Pukou, Nanjing, China (2005); Mianyang, Sichuan, China (2005); Yichun, Heliongjiang (MOU, 1998)
What have these previous ‘twinnings’ given us as a city? Have we forgotten them?
“there will be more trips”, I think I smelt that one coming. I guess they still havn’t found Colin Kinsley’s lost lamp shade.
Well it’s a good thing that they spent $25K on a trip in which “most of the potential business opportunities”, that being education, are completely outside of the control of the Mayor’s office. But hey, at least the Mayor represented the City well when it comes to to things that they have no input on, LOL.
I wonder what KPMG would think of these trips? Do they think they provide good value for money?
Wow!! Sounds like the mayor had a great trip. Great sights, beautiful scenery. Sounds like a conversation with someone who went on a great vacation. A city ready to raise our taxes AGAIN but our mayor and council are going away on vacation. It looks bad and even tastes worse.
I like the list of expenses.. it is still covered by tax payers dollars.. just out of a different account.. that doesnt make it okay.. just proves you can play the shell game with our tax dollars.
I do hope in Mayor Green in her spare time picked up some new knick knacks so the trip wasnât wasted.
yup think it is time we find a way to recall this bunch of world travellers. never saw any help from the other 3 sister citys when the lumber markets fell so cant see how this 4th one is gong to help us. we need a mayor and counsel that is willing to concentrate on our home problems, quit trying to pull the wool over our eyes and deal with what we got going on here. we, the tax payer, vote them in so we should be able to get them out. simple I thinkth
Same knick knacks they sell at Wallymart with less mark up? Probably.
I agree with hadenuf, who exactly voted for this Mayor?
My property taxes and city utilities are out of control.
I don’t have a problem paying for services rendered, but we the taxpayers are getting ripped off.
I will sign a recall petition.
talk is see is a puppet mayor that was bought and paid for by her campain contributors to help them do their bidding.
Now that we have another sister, I will never get into the bathroom. MOM!!!
(tounge in cheek) Education exchange will be good for our children, they will need to speak fluent mandarin to get a job in Canada by the way we are selling out to the Chinese.
Havn’t you seen the Rosetta Stone TV commercials ? “Now I speak Mandarin”.
âIt was beautiful, the people are amazing and culturally it was an incredible time, they were wonderful to us in every way.â
It just makes you forget they are a communist country with the worst human rights record on the planet hey Sheri?
“Mayor Green expects there will be a formal signing of a twinning agreement âIt will be a formal eventâ says the Mayor who says people should expect there will be more trips back and forth between the two cities âno one should be surprised by that.â
Can I go next time?
“It will be a formal event”
Sheri is just warning us that we will be buying her some new dresses.
I am so tired of how my tax dollars are being spent by politicians! The older I get, the more cynical I get. Too bad I can’t just sit here with blinders on and learn to ignore everything!!!
HEY! All you whining sniveling cry babies; you voted for her!!!!
Did not!
I can’t see Fetterly going to china!
I most certainly did not vote for the self serving shop keeper, nor would I ever.
The Last election I cast one vote and one vote only. I voted for No aldermen and one vote for mayor. I gave Dan rogers my vote. I Did Not Vote for him But rather against Little Miss Green. I Knew what she was about and who was backing her. So Infact I voted against Green.
Could Fetterly even get a passport?!
No!
At least the city did not spend on this one
Where is Mayor Green and company coming from?
Did Mayor Green forget the “Tienanmen Square Massacre also referred to as the June 4 Massacre that took place in 1989? Why would I or any citizen of Prince George want to be twinned with a communist country that brags to walk over the capitalist graves? Why would we want to be twinned with a country that pays their people 4 dollars a day to hang off a roped swing to clean their high-rise windows? Why would we want to be twinned with a city in a country, that does not care about their environment or anyone’s environment. Google “brown cloud” – The more I see this Mayor and Council perform the more I conclude we are in trouble in this city!
It appears that Lyn Hall is another puppet on a string. I voted for him and boy what a mistake.
It appears that Lyn Hall is another puppet on a string. I voted for him and boy what a mistake.
Good to see the city has returned to its “core responsibility” of doing promotional work for the Province (or the Ministry of Education to be precise). LOL.
When did it become the job of the municipality to be the sales rep industry or for the school district or the college or the university?
Glad to see the mayor thinks it was “amazing”. We lowly taxpayers also think its “amazing” but for a different reason.
This just shows how laughable the core review was, it was controlled by a few on Council who needed something to justify their political agenda.
They talk about cutting back but don’t touch their own wage increases, or any of their pet projects or their overseas junkets.
“the Mayor who says people should expect there will be more trips back and forth between the two cities âno one should be surprised by that.â
Would ordinary tax payers get to travel on these junkets or is only the chosen wonders.
It’s telling how meals, hotel expenses and transportation costs were so expensive.
It’s well known your dollar goes a lot further over there, hence big business drive to outsource everything there.
City politicians spent almost a years earnings for an entire village in China on this trip. Something to think about.
I think our mayor might be envious. Talks glowingly how one needs to have the blessing of the mayor of Jiangmen to do business there…. Other than that I don’t see what the strategy for doing business with them is?
Maybe the mayor of Jiangmen will come to PG with a strategy and try to get our blessing? Maybe that’s our mayors strategy?
Maybe mayor and council should go back to their old pay rates and include one trip a year during their term so they can be above board.
Did you know that jiangmen china is called the anus of china. I guess we are sister cities then cause PG is known as the asshole of BC.
BoVanity – And a laugh a day keeps the doctor away.
Did you know that in the human body there is a nerve that connects the eyeball to the anus? It’s called the Anal Optic Nerve and it is responsible for giving people a shitty outlook on life.
If you don’t believe it, pull a hair from your ass and see if it doesn’t bring tears to your eyes.
My public service is done for the day!
âIt was amazingâ said Mayor Shari Green, when asked about her impressions of Jiangmen, the city Prince George wants to make its âtwinâ. âIt was beautiful, the people are amazing and culturally it was an incredible time, they were wonderful to us in every way.â
Sure when you are in a communist country that wants something from you, the party leaders ensure that your backside is kissed according to there guidelines. The areas you visit are controlled and prepared in advance of your visit, eye sores are removed from sight. You get the sterile view they want you to see, nothing more.
Mayor Green says if businesses in Prince George want to do business with Jiangmen, or vice versa, âIf you donât have the blessing of the Mayor (of Jiangmen) it is not going to happen for youâ . Mayor Green says that is why the trip was meant to be a government to government exchange.
Sure you need to kiss the backside of the one who is in charge in a communist country, not unlike a street gang, you don’t kiss the backside according to there satisfaction , you’re done, thanks for playing.
Open your eyes and take a good look around you before you get swept away by the rhetoric.
Let’s see if there are any human rights protesters in town when these folks come to visit………….
I think we should make quesnel our sister city. Cheap and easy to get to and then green can make the trip as often as she likes. Amazing people and culture, beautiful scenery etc. How can we have so many twins from a country that only allows one child anyway?
Back about 20 to 30 years ago P.G. twinned with Cornerbrook Newfoundland as a sister city.
Green is out her league attending a garage sale let alone sending her on a trip anywhere.
Boy oh is Green enjoying all this publicity. She is not savvy enough to figure out that negative publicity is giving her the enthusiasm to do her job even worse. Can not wait till we uncover more of this story about commonwealth.
1. Why did NDI Trust move so quickly to begin foreclosure, less than a month after the funds were due?
2. If the NDI Trust is successful in obtaining the property, would they then offer it up to the Province which would take Commonwealth out of the equation?
3. Will the Province make an offer to the Courts to purchase these properties , thereby taking the matter out of the hands of Commonwealth and NDI Trust and just what would that offer be?
4. If the Directors at the time signed personal guarantees, how can they continue to operate in the positions that they now hold?
(a) Heather Oland is the CEO of Initiatives Prince George; she resigned as a Director of Commonwealth as part of her employment agreement. Is continuing to maintain a personal guarantee a contravention of that agreement, given that the courts may seek personal funds should there be a shortfall in the sale of the property?
(b) Judy Kehler, wife of Don Kehler is employed with the City of Prince George in the real estate department. What checks are in place to ensure that any City property sale is transparent?
5. What assurance can be given to the taxpayers that their investment through NDI Trust does not result in the taxpayer (whether local or provincial) is not required to fund any shortfall?
6. City Mayor Shari Green sits on the Board of the NDI Trust. She, along with Heather Oland, recently completed a trip to China together. Was there any discussion in regard to the foreclosure proceedings?
Green is thinking more in the lines of early retirement .
