Cloverdale, B.C. – The Kelly Scott rink out of Kelowna will represent British Columbia at the 2013 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Kingston, Ontario next month.

Scott defeated the Prince George foursome of Kirsten Fewster, Rhonda Camozzi, Jen Rusnell and skip Patti Knezevic 9-6 in Sunday’s final of the B.C. Scotties Women’s Curling Championship at the Cloverdale Curling Club to gain the berth in the national championship. Scott had beaten the Prince George rink twice in the past week, once in the round robin and then in the 1-2 match on Friday. Knezevic, Scott and the hometown rink of Marla Mallett had finished the round robin with identical 7 and 2 records. Knezevic edged Mallett 8-7 in Saturday’s semi-final to get into the championship game against Scott.

But in the final Scott proved too tough. She scored two in the first end, Knezevic got one back in the second, Scott scored three in the third and one in the fourth to make it 6-1, Knezevic made it 6-3 after five, Scott got a deuce back in the sixth, she made it 9-3 with one in the seventh, Knezevic refused to fold scoring two in the eighth to make it 9-5, got a single in the ninth for 9-6 but that’s where it ended as they shook hands.

Scott carries the BC flag at the 2013 Scotties Tournament of Hearts Feb 16-24 in Kingston.
