Busy Agenda As Council Ponders Core Review Ideas
Monday, February 18, 2013 @ 3:59 AM
Prince George, B.C. – Council for the City of Prince George is back to work this evening with a very full agenda.
More Core Review recommendations will be put before Council. The recommendations made by the Committee of the Whole at its January 28th meeting on numerous Core Review ideas will be presented. Among the recommendations are:
· Ending the fluoridation of the water system,
· redesign the customer service centre to make it a one –stop-shop,
· possible increases to adult ice time rates,
· boosted fees for sports fields and parks,
· new fees in planning department,
There are several items Council will be advised NOT to pursue, including:
· Dropping the funding for the steam train at Fort George Park
· Changing governance of IPG to allow for Council members to be on the Board
· Reducing transit services
· Reducing frequency of summer street sweeping
In addition to being called upon to rescind first two readings of a rezoning bylaw passed in December and pass an amended bylaw which includes specific wording in the definition of a therapeutic community care facility. City planner Deanna Wasnik says the definition should be re-worded to better reflect the proposed OCP amendment. If Council approves the amendment, it means, the earliest a public hearing on the proposed changes could be held is March 4th. ( see previous story)
The Planning Department will be calling on Council to rescind several rezoning bylaws which have been sitting on the shelf, with no activity on the properties covered by the respective bylaws. The dead rezoning bylaws include one which cleared the way for the development of a new golf course off Foothills Boulevard, a plan which was in the works when the Prince George Golf and Curling Club planned to move.
Staff will be presenting a report on the possibility of adding a new fee for “extra garbage” (see story ”Fees in the Bag?” )
The owners of the Treasure Cove Casino property will be making an application for an amendment to the Official Community Plan and a rezoning of some of the lands it owns at the corner of highways 16 and 97. Specifically, the site that used to be leased to the City for the visitor’s centre will be part of the discussion. The proposal to be put before Council indicates the initial plan is to have that property used for extra parking, however, it is viewed as a prime space for the possible future development of a hotel or motel in the future. As is normal practice, Council will likely give this application first and second readings to allow the proposal to move forward to a public hearing.

Rezoning the corner of 16 and 97 on the Treasure Cove casino side? Hmmm? A prepaid down payment of nearly $14 thousand dollars wouldn’t hurt to ensure a better chance. I am not insinuating anything. I would never do that. And then there is that phrase again, “….amending the OCP”. Interesting town and times I live in.
How about get rid of the free buses on bad air days.
“possible future development of a hotel or motel in the future”….with a 850K condo on the top?
What an ideal spot for a visitors centre but we had to move it down to 1st Ave next to a railway yard. Very impressive. How does thar go, stupid, stupid, stupid.
Cheers
So we now see that the cancelation of the lease for the visitors, center, the moving of Mr PG, and the visitors center downtown, was all done to accommodate the Treasure Cove.
So in essence we destroyed a perfectly good building, lost a good location for the centre, and located Mr PG in an area, that takes a navigation expert to get to.
And so it goes in the City of White Elephants.
Where the monies spent on the trendy electric car and hydrides in the core review. Unless I missed it I don’t think so. Lots of wasted money spent there.
Where in the world is the abolition of the floridation of our H2O. Quite frankly I am so tired of the taste of floride in my drinking water when we have a pristene water suply already.
Surefire
“Ending the fluoridation of the water system”
look up…look waaaay up.
IPG should be turfed.
How’s chances of turning this whole town into a non-profit society? Think of the tax implications.

Faulty computer.

Yep, who didn’t see this coming? It just happened a lot quicker than I thought it would.
Seriously folks, the only way to wake up politicians and give’r sh*t businesses owners is to “vote” when you spend your money. I mean it, by far the majority of us work hard for it and contribute more than our fair share in the taxes we pay, from every cent we earn and every time we purchase something (we have to, to make up the short fall of the people below and above us that don’t). Do your homework and decide who you want to support and then spend your money there/don’t drop a dime there, whichever you choose. When certain folks are demonstratively losing business, maybe they will wake up.
Don’t know why we would have to pay for “extra garbage” when it sometimes takes 10 days to pick it up after a holiday. If they want to charge extra, they should pick up garbage every week.
Some towns have a set day to pick up garbage, holiday or not!
Maybe they need to stop picking up garbage on stat holidays. Last Monday in College Heights they picked up garbage on the new BC Family Day Stat. Workers were probably getting double time. Didn’t even have time to roll the garbage can out when I saw garbage truck. Barely anyone on street had there containers out. Who was the idiot who sent the garbage trucks out.
The garbage pickup has been explained earlier. The pickup schedule was out before the holiday finalized. Maybe five people working anyhow, compared to the extra 5 million spent on the cop shop.
