Last Friday in February! Wow, this month has gone by REALLY fast, and so will the opportunity to speak up on the issues that struck a chord with you over the past week. Just 24 hours to take part in the FRIDAY FREE FOR ALL.
You pick the topic, but , as allways, obey the rules:
Keep it clean
Keep it legal

The new bylaw being drafted for extra garbage is crazy. Does council not realize what a mess it will be. Where is bear aware? Get a large cart if your smaller one is over full all the time. If it is still overfull take it to the transfer station.
Love the weather :)
Don’t care for out mayors math… How does a 10% reduction across the board for city costs calculates to a 25% increase on my 2013 utility bill?
I’d like to give a shout out to all the wonderful gas stations for the roughly 60 cent per gallon increase in gas prices.
Speaking of gas; did you read in the local rag how Harper let the oil companies write the Navigable Waters Protection Act for themselves. I wonder how many oil company boards he will sit on when he is retired.
RUES I think it’s more like 77 cents per gal. They climbed from 116.9 to 133.9 a whopping 17 cents per literat most stations and even as high as 135.9 at the Shell on 5th and Foothills. Pr Geo just likes to keep up with Vancouver prices.
What happens to the garbage put on the street without a colored tag?
Raising the utility bill, is not the answer, Prince George needs to stop building new Neighbourhoods until we our able to maintain the ones we already have. Refurbish exsisting streets, downtown living is popular in other cities.
So I am jogging down the sidewalk and I come upon a dunce of a Telus employee parked on it.
He was doing something in the box about 10 feet away. Nothing heavy or anything. Plus he took the time to place the idiot-cone out from the corner. On the road where the van wasn’t.
So I asked the twit, why he and so many like him feel compelled to park on the sidewalk with all four wheels. Blocking it entirely and sending all pedestrians, (wheelchairs and strollers included without any ramp) out into the boulevard? He answer was he didn’t want to “block traffic). On Domano which has cars parked on the street all along it.
What crap. I made him aware of my opinion and he skulked off. Just because BCTel used to be a crown corporation, granting them some weird license to park where they liked, doesn’t mean the practice should extend to every geek with a screwdriver and a van.
Don’t forget to fill in the survey on how you feel city council is performing available here until Sunday:

bentely just wanted to let you know that I have seen postings on FB that the Northern Bear Awareness Society of PG is aware of this illogical plan and I am sure they will have something to present to the powers that be.
Remember that when you fill up with the more expensive gas the person on the till taking your money is the minimum wage earner not the setter of the Price
New2pg thnx for posting he link for he survey.
Article in the G&M stating low gas prices helped keep the inflation rate down in Canada…..I guess PG is the exception to the rule:(

@Bcracer. Digital download code really? Who needs that theses days? Download it off a torrent or find yourself a Blu ray ripper!
Didn’t they just find a bunch of oil in the US under some shale? Now the US doesn’t need our oil so the Canadian oil producers are starting to panic.
How about BC Hydro owing the state of California about a billion dollars for some shananigans that happened in 2000? Expect your hydro bills to go up too.
Extremely disappointed with this public survey that political science students from UNBC are putting on regarding the recovery center proposed in Haldi Road. For third year students, you would think they would way more informed about the issues at hand. It is not about a women’s recovery center, it is about the city amending the OCP and spot-zoning. Who would oppose getting women help? No one in the neighbourhood is opposed to that, they are opposed to the way the city is amending the OCP and essentially changing the very nature of their rural lifestyles.
Put a recovery center in my neighbourhood – I have apartments down the street as well as businesses, I wouldn’t notice extra traffic in my area but I’m certain that housing for 30 people would be very well noticed in a neighbourhood composed of primarily single family dwellings on large lots.
Also – when asking questions at these polling stations I received different answers at each one. They didn’t realize that the area in question is not on city water or sewer. They didn’t realize that the residents wish the well to be capped. They didn’t do their research and their professor will be hearing from myself – I’d be embarrassed if my students were third year and that oblivious to the real issues.

nope.
NoWay Hydro does not owe money its California that owes Hydro about 400 million and they have been fighting it. Its been through the courts before and Hydro has always won. Our electrical rates are going up because of the 53 billion in contracts Hydro is forced to buy from IPP’s by the fiberals for their friends.
You have to get beyond main stream media and overpaid talking heads.
NoWay: “@Bcracer. Digital download code really? Who needs that theses days? Download it off a torrent or find yourself a Blu ray ripper!”
BCRacer: “easy for you to say NoWay…not all of us are that computer savy…”
Not to mention that many people don’t feel right about pirating movies and music.
Re: Gas prices… Suck it up PG. All the anonymous postings on this site won’t change it.
Thanks, lonesome sparrow. It is good to know that inflation is under control thanks to lower gasoline prices. I see that my hydro bill is not into the premium category for the first time in 25 years, now that I have a “smart”meter.
Smart for whom? Is this so we can subsidise those who are harnessing our rivers privately under contract to sell at high prices to OUR utility?
Who is looking after British Columbia’s citizenry?

As usual the gougers in Prince George are making big bucks on gas. Price in Kamloops 1.20 litre.
On the Island most places are 1.29 and they have to pay additional trucking and ferry charges.
The survey noted above should have some interesting results.
Hopefully they track the respondents so that the results can’t be disregarded by the Mayor and Council. Especially Wilbur, who didn’t buy into the results of the City’s poll.
The results of how well the Councillers are doing their jobs, will be even more interesting. Some of them will get an eye opener when they find that there is a significant difference in how great they think they are doing, and how great the citizens of Prince George think they are doing.
The price of gas is the price because we will pay it.
How many people have parked their cars and quit buying gas?
We went down to the coast at Christmas to visit the relatives and went through the auto-toll lane on the rebuilt Port Mann bridge, wondering how exactly would we get billed?
Well, got a bill in the mail the other day for $1.50, which means that by the time our government (or the contractor who actually sends the bill) pays for the sheet of paper, printing costs, cost for the envelope, a 63 cent stamp, and wages to pay some clone to put it all together and stick it in the mail, they’ll make about 9/10 of 4/5 of bum swoosh.
I, on the other hand, will be out $1.50 for the bill plus the cost of the checque, plus the 63 cent stamp to send it back because you can’t just go down to the BC Access centre to remit payment.
Yup, BC Liberals, fiscally prudent, yup.
The real kicker about the gas hike is that the price per barrel dropped by 2 bucks. Expecting a hurricane maybe ?
Got to chuckle at these cut and dried solutions some people think up when it comes to getting gouged at the pumps. Such as…don’t like the price of gas? Then don’t drive. So according to some we should let the oil companies force everyone to move downtown into a 10×10 cubicle that is only a 5 minute walk from work, and then we all won’t need to use any gas. Yep, thats the first thing I do when I see gas increased at a deplorable rate in a few days…I phone up my boss and say…hey, can you do without me until the price of gas goes down? I don’t think I want to drive while the price is so high. What? I’m fired? Oh well, guess I won’t have to waste any money on gas now. Problem solved.
Parking Nazi is working the area around the phoenix medical center again. Anyone see a snowplow. There almost everyday, easy mony.

another view would be that you should be charged the extra cost of the manual billing cycle because you didn’t register voluntarily for the free tag and reduced rate … so you are actually complaining about a break on the price instead of being charged full price … interesting … there are routes into Vancouver that are toll free … and more than an hour longer … your choice
Funny part she ignored a car parked under a no parking sign.
Anyone know what happened to the investigation of the shooting of the army vet that got shot on his property by police, I never seen anything about it , did I miss it?
They will claim self-defense–all 20 of them.
speaking of gas prices, a friend of mine commented this morning “I fart because it’s the only gas that I can still afford”, haha!
Kind of goes hand in hand with this site’s Ben’s instructions for Friday Free For All
L E T ‘E R R I P !!!!!
But: “Got to chuckle at these cut and dried solutions some people think up when it comes to getting gouged at the pumps.”
I chuckle just as much at those who do nothing but whine and moan about the price of gas, thinking that’s going to have any effect whatsoever.
Absolutely right, Styxxx. But it’s not just Telus (although they are particularly bad). I’ve seen Purolater, WJS, auto parts delivery vehicles, etc. all parked on the sidewalk. They don’t seem to realize that not everyone can just hop off and walk safely around through traffic, or they don’t care. I can only hope that when I call the companies these people work for that action will be taken and eventually it will get better..
I would like to thank Ben for enforcing the No Bullying rule of this site. I am both disgusted and dirheartened to read comments from what I presume to be reasonably educated people acting like idiots while hiding behind the veil of anonymity of the internet and a username.
Ben has created an incredible news and information site but it takes an integrity hit when it is abused.
Keep up the good work Ben.
Thanks for your useless advice JB

Thanks for the heads up…I’m headed to that part of town in a bit.
I’m not sure where they expect us to park? I don’t mind paying the pittance for the lot but it’s full more often then not and it’s certainly difficult to park a crew cab there.
Maybe I’ll put out some cones and park on the sidewalk. :)
Telus or the Forerunner BC Tel never was a Crown Corporation and for parking on sidewalks it’s a no go and not condoned by the Company and for Purolater and the like I don’t know how they get away with double Parking .
acrider: “Thanks for your useless advice JB”
I must have missed your advice on the subject. What’s your solution? Other than complaining on here?
Life is expensive. I just hope to help out those who can’t afford the necessities. This is a good time to contribute something to agencies that help out the poor. Or maybe send a Superstore gift card to a struggling neighbor with young children. Even something like a $5 or $10 donation can make a little bit of a difference to someone. Just keep this in mind and we can all try to make this silly world a slightly better place.
I gave one of our employees who has 4 kids and a stay at home wife the Art Gallery family season pass I won at some auction. It isn’t much but it does give those kids a chance to check out the Family Sundays at the Art Gallery. I know some of you might say “give the guy a raise” but he does make decent money and really isn’t worth more (given his experience).
And…be nice to people when you have the chance to. It just makes life easier :)
I always wonder why are our many levels of elected representatives ALWAYS silent in regards to our gas prices. It’s obvious there is collusion in regards to price setting, and no justification for the massive increases. I am unimpressed by the station owners and our visually impaired politicans, ’cause they clearly can’t seen what’s going on.
One of our posters is advising someone to commit an offense of illegally downloading (stealing) copyrighted material.
That also is an indictable offense.

and at the same time a representative of the company!
Thats right Dragon! You yell at that 18 year old girl making minimum wage! That’ll fix em! *eye roll*

and a face palm!

And you suggest I should do this my for once a year trip to the coast? Actually, you missed the point, which the inefficent means of collecting tolls from out of town drivers. I have no quibble with being charged a toll, but if you’re going to charge a toll, wy not do it in such a manner that it actually serves its purpose, which is to raise money to pay for the bridge. Since they have my liscence number, why not just tack it on to my ICBC auto insurance later this year?

Agreed, but there are a few that just can’t seem to stop with their personal attacks against others opinions and feelings. They continually poke others with sticks and are continuously trying to belittle others at every turn. People attempt to express their personal opinions and are called whiners.
“Thats right Dragon! You yell at that 18 year old girl making minimum wage! That’ll fix em! *eye roll*”
Huh???
I agree with JB. There have been major advancements in fuel efficiency technology in the last 30 years but most of it has gone into making vehicles bigger and more powerful than in saving fuel. This is not because of some conspiracy but because people like big powerful trucks and SUVs.
Cars as well. A new family sedan (for example Toyota Camry) has more HP than a mussle car from the 80s (Carmero or Mustang 5.0).
On city utilties.
Has anyone noticed that greatly increasing city utility rates in order to increase property tax less has the result of shifting the tax burden from owners of expensive homes to cheaper homes. This will be even more pronounced if they start funding snow removal as a per household utility.
Did they build muscle cars in the 80’s ?
Technically yes but not really, cars in the 80’s were junk. Who ever heard of a mustang with a 4 banger? Think that was mostly to do with fuel prices though…
Dragonmaster: “Agreed, but there are a few that just can’t seem to stop with their personal attacks against others opinions and feelings. They continually poke others with sticks and are continuously trying to belittle others at every turn.”
Hate to point out the obvious, but you are one of the worst offenders on this site.
Hummer, I had one of those Mustages with the 4 banger in it. LOL! It was what I could afford and being all of 19 yrs old, I thought it was pretty cool. That was, until I had to get it through an intersection. Had to rev the snot out of it and drop the clutch. Luckily my spouse had a real muscle car with a 396, 4 speed transmission in it. Now that was fun.
How come the city seems to cherry pick where they ticket cars parking on the streets during the day? What about all the vehicles parked off Vancouver and such. What difference is that to around the Phoenix medical center. Quite often there is no parking available on the Phoenix lot.
Oops. I guess only me and Vanilla Ice thought a Mustang 5.0 was a muscle car.
I should have said most mondern family sedans (Camry, Accord, Taurus) have more horsepower than a typical muscle car from the 60s and 70s.
I had a pleasant surprise while driving into town down the Hart yesterday. Most people were actually obeying the keep right except to pass signage. It was quite a pleasant surprise.
I still wonder what goes through the head of someone when they see a steady stream of cars passing them in the right lane. Do they even notice? That’s a scary thought.
My car is soooooo old it has no more muscles…
@JB it’s not pirating to download or rip a copy of something you already own.
Read the news seamutt. The Us court ruled that a company owned solely by BC Hydro price gouged the California consumer to the tune of One billion dollars.
Re parking around Phoenix Med Bldg —- go the city site and complain to the councillors Their e-mail addresses are there
There was no snow on 10th ave the day last week that I saw about 15 cars ticketed in that block. Really absurd and infuriating.
So who did the citizen fire for plagiarism ?
I was wondering that too, Plagiarism is a rather serious offense.
NoWay: “@JB it’s not pirating to download or rip a copy of something you already own.”
Actually, I think it is. You might want to read the fine print on the back of that DVD or CD.
There are no laws in Canada about downloading or copying material. The USA does but we don’t.
http://publications.gc.ca/site/eng/ccl/aboutCopyright.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright_Act_of_Canada
http://www.ctvnews.ca/sci-tech/company-tracks-illegal-downloading-of-1-million-canadians-1.1057091
So Green confirms parking issues in the hospital and will meet with Northern health to discuss in the meantime I guess tickets will still be handed out to those who can’t find parking. Easy money.
So just why did this problem develop in the first place? City dropped the ball again.
Yes but the laws are under review due to all the advancements in technology. They are on the books but not I forced…..yet
NoWay you have to catch up. Hydro has already been to court a couple of times and won. This is just more BS from California trying to get out of paying Hydro 400 million they owe.
California is broke and scratching for money. A big problem is high energy costs from their so called very expensive green power initiatives and industry leaving in droves.
Same thing will happen here.
By the way even the UN IPPC acknowledges no world temperature increase for 17 years. How do you like that carbon tax rip-off.
http://wattsupwiththat.com/2013/02/22/ipcc-railroad-engineer-pachauri-acknowledges-no-warming-for-17-years/
The millions big corps are making of the carbon tax credits is appalling.
If my memory serves me correct, it was orange county that owed bc hydro $400,000 million and they claimed bank ruptsy. The very next day hydro was still being supplied. This goes back a long time ago.
To even sugest that bc Hydro lost its court case in an americian court is laughable. Just look at the soft wood lumber issues over the last decade. Canada 99 USA 1. They cling to the 1 victory and say that they hae been vindicated.
Looks like Prince Rupert’s container port as well as Vanvouver is causing concern to the Seattle and Tacoma seaport.
Here is a link to the story on KIRO 7 News today. Some interesting information.

Another gritty town poised to compete and ready to grow.
goodnight …..
