P.G. To Host Short Track Speed Skating Championships in 2014

Prince George, BC- Prince George has been awarded the  2014 Canadian Age Class Short Track Championships.
 
The championships have been set for March 14th -16th  next year, and will be recognized as an official test event leading into the 2015 Canada Winter Games. has just been awarded to Prince George. 
 
 “The 2015 Games staff gave us their unconditional support in putting together the bid package,” says Ariadne Hiller, Blizzards Speed Skating Club Meet Coordinator and 2015 Canada Winter Games Sport Lead for speed skating.  “In fact, Speed Skating Canada noted it was one of the best proposals they have ever received.” 
 
The Canadian Age Class Short Track Championships will be the first opportunity for the new KIN I Arena facility and its ice to be competition-tested for short track speed skating. In addition, the event will test transportation, event logistics, speed skating officials, accreditation systems, medical services, food services and Prince George’s hosting capacity for a major sports competition.
 
The competition will showcase 128 athletes, aged 15-23 from 10 provinces and 3 territories across Canada.  
 
“We want every athlete, coach and visitor to leave Prince George saying, ‘This was an incredible event, and the 2015 Canada Winter Games will be even better,’ ” says Hiller.
