Geoscience to Focus on Interior Plateau

Prince George, B.C.- Geoscience B.C. has announced a new resource exploration project. This one is called TREK , which stands for Targeting Resources through Exploration and Knowledge, this is a multi disciplinary, multi year project.
It will focus on the northern interior plateau, an area Geoscience says has a high probability of mineral resources, but has been under explored because of “poorly understood bedrock geology and overburden.”
But it’s the recent Blackwater gold deposit southwest of Vanderhoof, that has sparked new interest in the mineral potential of the interior plateau.
Geoscience will put more than $3.9 million to support the first phase of the project that will include new airborne testing, new stream, lake, soil and till geo-chemical sampling, and new geological mapping and mineral deposit studies over a 20 thousand square kilometre area.
In addition to mineral exploration, several First Nations have expressed interest in learning more about geothermal potential in the region, so this project will also include sampling analysis that will offer a better understanding of the geothermal potential of the northern interior plateau. Geo thermal opportunities will be especially important to remote communities which still rely on diesel fuel and generators.
