WBC Ready for Three-Peat

Wednesday, March 27, 2013 @ 12:28 PM
Prince George, B.C.-   The World Baseball Challenge returns to Prince George this summer, for the third time.

This year, the Challenge is slated for August 13-23, and will welcome  Cuba, Japan, Chinese-Taipei, USA, Bahamas, and the home team, Canada.

The tournament   is slated to start right after the WBC Society led AAA Peewee Baseball Provincials, which will be played Aug. 8-11 at Spruce City Stadium – making it an exciting month of August for top-level baseball, both youth and international levels. The theme is already generating excitement – “From Boys to Men.”

WBC Society Co- Chair, Jim Swanson says Prince George has earned a lot of respect in the international baseball world for the quality of the two previous events.  He says teams have committed to taking part in this year’s World Baseball Challenge much earlier than they have in the past. “The word is out that the World Baseball Challenge is a quality event, with great competition. We have yet to have a team come to Prince George and leave with an undefeated record, which speaks to the level of play. We know the tournament has really helped the profile of the city internationally, and has drawn in significant numbers in terms of economic activity.”

Although a tournament schedule is ready, it is tentative and could see some changes to accommodate travel schedules or last minute changes. The tournament is set to open on the 13th with Team Canada up against  Team U.S.A. Tournament passes for the World Baseball Challenge go on sale on April 1 through Ticketmaster locations and on-line (www.ticketmaster.ca).
