Competitors bring their ‘all’ to 2013 Artistic Gymnastics BC Championships

Prince George, BC – The Opening Ceremonies of the 2013 Artistic Gymnastics BC Championships are just getting underway at the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre.

The three-day event began yesterday with more than 550 gymnasts from around the province competing for 30 provincial titles in their various age categories in events that are both physically and artistically demanding.

The weekend is a ‘test’ event for the 2015 Canada Winter Games and Prince George Gymnastics Club President, Lucia Fendelet, says, the Sports Centre is proving to be a great venue.

"Everything has been going really well," says Fendelet.  "The kids are doing great – it looks like they’re having fun."

There are 25 local gymnasts competing at the championship, including 10-year-old Alia Wilson, shown in photo at left preparing for the vault competition.

The youngster recently took the top spot at a competition in Surrey to qualify for the 2013 Western Canadian Gymnastic Championships in Winnipeg.

Doors open at 7am tomorrow for the final day of competition, which runs until 3pm.
