Prince George, B.C. – Teams taking part in next month’s Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay For Life are raising fund for the cause at a garage sale today.
The sale, hosted by the team known as the Spiritkeepers, runs from 9am to 3pm at Spruce City Stadium at Carrie Jane Grey Park. Organizer Peter Ghostkeeper says “the teams in the Relay For Life come in and fill up their table and the money they make goes directly to their teams for the Relay For Life for cancer. There are seven teams taking part, maybe a few more still, and they’ll raise three to four thousand dollars. We sell everything from A to Z, furniture, appliances, all that stuff.”
Ghostkeeper says this is the fifth year his 25-member team has put on the garage sale. “My team, the Spiritkeepers, this is the seventh year we’ve been in the relay, and we’ve raised over $25,000 over the last six years. Hopefully this year our team will make $7,500. In March we had a pub night and raised $1,500 and we did a 50-50 draw for the aboriginal youth tournament and made another $1,500. Plus all our donations so right now our team is at $4,400 and we’ve still got a few weeks to go (before the relay) so we’re doing fine.”
Ghostkeeper says the concession will be open today as well to help raise funds. All of the money winds up with the Canadian Cancer Society, which uses it for cancer prevention strategies, research and support for individuals and families touched by cancer.
The 24-hour Relay For Life goes May 11th and 12th at Masich Place Stadium.
