Grassfire Scorches Vacant Lot

Fire fighters work to douse a grass fire near Peden Hill Elementary School

Prince George, BC – Prince George Fire Rescue continues to mop up after a grassfire in a vacant lot at the corner of Westwood Drive and Andres Road…

As shown by the photo above, the fire came perilously close to the neighbouring home.

While full details are not yet available, a witness tells 250News that the blaze may have been the result of a small recreational fire that ‘got away’ from a youngster.

Last weekend, the Prince George Fire Centre urged city residents to exercise extreme caution with any outdoor burning due to the dry, winter grass that’s now uncovered. (click here for previous story)

This week’s hot weather is certain to increase the risk – today’s high will reach 23 degrees, with a revised forecast calling for Friday and Saturday to be scorchers at 26- and 27-degrees, respectively.
