Friday, May 10, 2013 @ 3:59 PM

Prince Georege, B.C. – While Crews  continue to  deal with a wildfire  near Pilot Mountain,  the air tanker that has been assisting in  that blaze will now have to make a swing past a fire on the south edge of the City.

Wildfire Managment Branch Senior Fire Protection Officer Brent Bye says a  land clearing  project sparked a fire on private property this afternoon.  The Buckhorn  Volunteer  Fire department responded but the fire is  a little too hot for them to handle.  They  have since called in for  assistance from the Wildfire Management branch.

Smoke from  this fire is visible from Highway 97 south ( photo at right -submitted)

Bye says  a chopper has already   arrived on the scene of that blaze which is at the end of Lund Road, near Cale Creek.  He expects the Air Tanker would be on scene momentarily.

As a precautionary measure, residents from 5 homes in the area have been advised to leave . A reception centre has been established at the Regional District office at 155 George for those residents who have been advised to leave.
The Regional District has opened its Emergency Operations Centre to a level 1.
