Regional District Says Yes to Mutual Aid Fire Services

Friday, May 17, 2013 @ 4:51 AM
Prince George, B.C.- The way has been cleared for the volunteer fire departments in the Regional District of Fraser Fort George to   give each other a hand if needed.

Phase one of the mutual aid fire services has been approved. It means that if, for example, there is a fire in Buckhorn, that fire department could call on Pineview to give a hand. “This will be especially helpful during the weekdays when many of the volunteers are at their day jobs” says Melanie Perrin, the Fire Services Coordinator for the Regional District.

Board Chair Art Kaehn expressed some concern over costs that may be involved, especially for communities that have very small volunteer departments. Perrin says the volunteer department requesting the aid of other fire services would not be expected to pick up any costs other than that of supplies that may be used to help battle a fire.

This project has been in the works for several years, and had been rejected in the past. What’s changed? Perrin says there are some different players  on the Board of Directors, which may have played a part in making the idea more palatable.

The next phase of this concept is to explore the possibility of developing a mutual aid agreement with the City of Prince George and the District of Mackenzie fire services.

Board Chair Art Kaehn expressed some concern over costs that may be involved!!!

Is this where we are at? Volunteer organization members working for free, yet being criticized for costing too much?

People#1, good point.

“possibility of developing a mutual aid agreement with the City of Prince George and the District of Mackenzie fire services.”

I think enough if my city tax dollars goes to the RDFFG, why would I want to spend my money to send city owned and operated fire trucks to buckhorn or free? Mutual aid….sure, as long as they get a bill!

ummm ride-on mutual aid means that we help when needed and they help us when needed.

nice to know some people would be happy to watch our neighbors burn!
