Valemount , B.C. – Highway 16 is closed  in both directions about 8 kms  west  of  the Highway 5 turnoff  because of a  mud slide.

A geotechnical  assessment is underway.  There is no detour available at the slide site.

 

Witnesses advise the slide is approximately 50 feet wide and 1 foot deep and it appears debris is still flowing indicating the slide could get worse. 

 

There are no reports of any vehicles being trapped or injuries at this time.

 

The area is extremely dangerous and unpredictable and therefore Motorists traveling east of Prince George are asked to stay away from the area.
