I guess it’s no surprise that John Rustad was appointed Minister of Aboriginal Affairs. He has been building relationships with many of the First Nations that are against the Gateway Pipeline. The BC Liberals obviously want that to go through, and will be counting on John to use his contacts with the FN’s to help make that happen.
The question is, can he deliver?
Ummm they don’t want the pipeline including most of the rest of BC so I don’t think John will try to convince them to change their minds.
It’s not up to them anyways. Rustad and me and you and every other BC resident can jump up and down, hold our collective breath, blockade roads, light fires, write letters, go to meetings etc.and it won’t make a pinch of a difference. If the federal governmetn wants the pipeline to go this way, it will go this way.
Thanks for the reality check NoWay. I’m still so used to the BC Liberals lying to us, that I think that every word that comes out of a BC Liberal MLA’s mouth is a lie.
I took a look at the facts behind the names, some real good people named. Say what you want about the Premier, she inherited some crap, but appears to be doing a good job.
Think John Rustad is pretty well in touch with whats going on with his new portfolio, don’t see him falling down on the job.
Think Shirley Bond is going to do a good job as well, her past presents the future and it looks good.
And I believe Meisner’s right, Feds aren’t going to upset their voters applecart out here.
Big Oil Harper is stuck between a rock and a hard place on the proposed pipeline he describes as being in the “national economic interests of Canada”.
If he doesn’t push the pipeline through, he will lose a lot of his Alberta home province and home riding support. If he does try to push that pipeline through, he will lose any support he has in BC.
It takes a real leader to find a solution acceptable to both provinces. Harper is definitely not a real leader!
Same things happens from the Federal Level right down to the municipal level.
Mayor and council was stuck between a rock and a hard place on the Haldi Fiasco as the mayor describes as being in the “best interests of the community”
If she did not push the centre through, she would lose a lot of her business support.
It takes a real leader to find a solution acceptable to the people of the city. Green is definitely not a real leader! Would not even listen to people’s recommendations…
People#1 said it all……
If government wants something to go through – it will go through – period.
“It takes a real leader to find a solution acceptable to both provinces.”
New Brunswick wants the logical option of sending the bitumen to the East moved to the front burner if B.C. keeps saying No!
That ought to be acceptable to Alberta and British-Columbia!
Oh this should be real interesting, what a make up, Rustad is so right wink he could turn left, as minister they will expect a lot and his mine set is going to provide some entertainment for sure. Clark sure left out seniors guess they don’t produce gas.
Oh after another look, Tourism has two Ministers wow, Bond and Yamomoto ?? what’s with this.
Hey…there they all are…
The charter members of the “Sore Losers Club”.
All the navel gazing in the world won’t change the result’s of the election….
Clark & company won and Dix and company lost.
The province and all the people that are willing to work for a living won too.
The Community colleges and the skills trade programs won too!
Just watch the funding going into trade skills training over the next four years. B.C. will be leading the rest of Canada.
This is a great province to be living in and it just gets better…congratulations to all the voters who understand what it takes to have a vibrant economy, what it takes to maintain it, and what it takes to enhance it.
While the “Sore Losers” Club continue to whine about how their dream of a utopian welfare state has been smashed…..the rest of us will take advantage of the multitude of opportunities that are presented to us….and all we need to do is be willing to train hard and work hard.
Life is good, and just gets better!
She didn’t even give a junior post to Dr. Moira Stilwell! Is she “still well” with her decision? … Anything to do with 8:01 club?
Hey, Gimme, just because those of us who voted NDP believe in the value of a socially conscious government, it doesn’t mean we believe that no one has to have a job. It’s a “worker’s utopia” not a “goof-off utopia”.
Besides, there’s such a thing as a “sore winner”, too. But don’t worry, it’s not like I subscribe to the notion that everyone who voted Liberal believes in the dystopian corporate nightmare of 1984 or some Spencerian dog-eat-dog world where those less fortunate are left to starve or resort to crime . . . hey, wait a minute, maybe that is what you believe!

“Just watch the funding going into trade skills training over the next four years. B.C. will be leading the rest of Canada”
That may be true Gimme’ but the Liberals are really just playing catch up after razing the apprenticeship system in B.C. They left us all hanging for a couple of years while employers, industry and unions scrambled to address the impending shortfall of skilled trade labour. The “skilled labour shortage” that only became apparent to government in the last two or three years has been on the radar of Western Canada employers for more than ten years.
This shuffling of cabinet ministers has always bothered me. Just as a minister might be learning enough about his or her portfolio to almost be useful, they get re-appointed to another post, and start all over again. This practice inhibits continuity, its just a waste of time.
metalman.
“Just as a minister might be learning enough about his or her portfolio to almost be useful, they get re-appointed to another post”
That is why we have deputy ministers and associate deputies, etc. Some even stick around no matter which party is in power.
There is a difference between directing and administering.
Watch “Yes Minister” and you get the idea very quickly.

It appears we are now down to one Cabinet Minister for PG ie; Shirley Bond with Bell’s old Ministry, which if anything was a demotion for Bell.
Contrary to some opinions, Bell and Bond actually supported Kevin Falcon during the leadership campaign, and therefore were just tolerated by Clark. Now that she has a firm hand on the Government, those who did not support her, are not likely to fare to well.
We now have a token Cabinet Minister with little or no clout.
Krusty; “Hey, Gimme, just because those of us who voted NDP believe in the value of a socially conscious government,”. You may believe in a socially concious Government, but had the NDP won the election I doubt that Adrian “Hey I was only 35” Dix would have delivered. Remember, they were the government at one time & they did what they wanted. ;)
I agree with PG losing one cabinet post to other regions and it isn’t something to celebrate.
Bond was not qualified for the justice minister and clearly after the UNBC WIDC scandal, PG paid for it, and it also cost Bond a demotion. Clark has a by election ahead and the opposition will watch all her moves and she cannot afford another scandal.
