Many ‘Hit The Trail’ To Williams Lake Stampede

Saturday, June 29, 2013 @ 4:32 AM

Williams Lake, BC –  The Williams Lake Stampede is a rite of summer for many rodeo folk throughout the Cariboo, Central Interior and Northwest regions…

Stampede President, Fred Thomas, says, "In the last two years, our attendance was over 16,000 people (each year) and the population of Williams Lake is 12-thousand, so it kind of gives you an idea of how big it is."

Thomas says the majority of spectators – about 80-percent – come from within a 100-mile radius of Williams Lake, but adds many make the trip from Prince George, the Bulkley Valley, and even the north coast.

International visitors include those from Europe, Australia and the US.  Thomas says it is the ‘big event’ of the year in Williams Lake.  " I would have no idea as to what it brings in as far as income to the community, but I’m sure it’s pretty significant."

Today’s rodeo performance begins at 12:45pm.  For more information, click here.

After reading this it just makes me want to hum that McLean & McLean song “Off to the rodeo” for some reason.

Except it ain’t 40 below.

Two rodeo shows on Friday with one on each day Saturday, Sunday, Monday.

So 16,000+ people really means 16,000+ people.days which is an average of 4,000 per day.

I wish these kind of shows would show their statistics in a more meaningful fashion.

As far the size of the Rodeo/Stampede goes, it is listed as one of the top 10 in Canada. Cloverdale (May) and Armstrong (September) are listed as the other two in BC.

That is something to be proud of!
