Two Cougars Selected In NHL Entry Draft
Prince George, BC – The names of two Prince George Cougars were called out at the 2013 NHL Entry Draft at the Prudential Center…
Forward Zachary Pochiro was selected in the 4th round, 112th overall, by the St. Louis Blues. The American-born Pochiro was named the Cougars’ Rookie of the Year this past season with 15-goals, 39-points, and 105 penalty minutes.
Pochiro becomes the second Cougar in team history to be selected by the Blues – Nic Drazenovic was the NHL team’s pick back in 2005.
The second Cougar selected yesterday was defenceman, Marc McNulty. The 6-foot-6 defenceman led the Cougar’s blueliners with eight goals. He was taken in the 6th round (169th overall) by the Detroit Red Wings and earns the distinction of being the team’s first-ever selection by Detroit.
Unfortunately, for Prince George Spruce Kings defenceman, Kevin Guiltanen, he was not selected during yesterday’s draft, despite being one of eight BCHL players listed in the NHL’s Central Scouting rankings in late April. The League’s top pick was Adam Tambellini of the Surrey Eagles, who was taken in the third round (65th overall) by the NY Rangers.
