Monday, July 1, 2013 @ 7:16 PM
Prince George, B.C. – A  hail storm that  pounded through Prince George  earlier this evening,  left nearly 2,000 BC Hydro customers without power for about  3 hours.

Electricity was just restored in the west end of Prince George, through to Mud River.   About 1700 customers had been impacted there.   East of the city, about 130 customers are still without power in the Willow River  area.

BC Hydro is predicting power will be restored to the Willow River area before midnight.

What is with these approximations of who lost power. Aren’t the “smart” meters supposed to get rid if any guess work? Another fail from hydro.. Time to up the bc hydro bosses bonuses i guess .

P Val please educate me on how a smart meter is supposed to predict how long a power outage will last and how a smart meter will predict said power outage enquiring minds would like to know

You missed my point… I didn’t say anything about time the power would be out.. And how the smart meters would help with that. I stated on numbers who lost power…

Smart meters are on line in most areas. Go to your account on line and have a look.

A smart meter indicates individual outages or areas of outages in a quicker more efficient manner.

That being said you still need manpower to correct an outage.

Now this is where it gets interesting. In areas of the world where smart meters are installed and a dependence in so called green energy grew and is not working out so well, surprise surprise, the meters are used to produce rolling blackouts because of a shortage of power. Your power can be turned off remotely.

Sea mutt the smart meters don’t indicate nothing except when to charge you more. Last power outage i called bc hydro to inform them ( I do have a smart meter) and they didnt know. They asked me to confirm the outage with my neighbour as thy didnt believe me, I told them that all the street lights where out but that wasnt good enough proof of n outage to them.

So why didnt they know of this outage from the smart meters?

Faulty meter maybe. Street lights can be on a different circuit than your house, even your neighbour could be on a different circuit.

Different circuit for just my house…please.
How long have you worked for bc hydro :)?

ah our old friend BC hydro… Thanks to the diabolical smart meter I think that they make top 5 on the list of things people whine incessantly about. Along with Canfor, CN rail, ICBC and the RCMP. Look at any story about one of those groups and que the regular whine from the regular culprits :)

ps – my house is on a different circuit than my neighbors. There have been several times where the power from my house West is out, and my neighbors house and East is is still on, or vice versa. ;)
