Really sad to hear. I have had close calls this year with a moose and a bear so far.

Very sorry to hear this. I ride, and have lots of friends that ride. My condolences to this riders family and friends. Please be safe when we ride!

Very sad.

One question…. How do you hit a moose on a motorcycle… A bike can easily swerve around an obstacle… And yes I ride myself. It is very unfortunate that the man died, and condolences to family and friends.

Moose are very unpredictable. I don’t ride a bike, but I’m sure he did everything in his power to avoid the collision.

Very easy sum42guy2k…if the moose was in a full out run it can be on the road and caused the collision in the blink of an eye. It could simply be a matter of the rider being distracted. We may never know for sure. Condolences to the family and friends

Have hit a few moose over the years, missed a few as well, although none on a bike. They are very difficult to predict and many times missing them is just shithouse luck. Condolences!

sum42guy2k: If you’re passing other vehicles in a passing lane, like it looks like he might have been doing, the other traffic my have obstructed his view of the moose until too late. Also his speed may have been a factor in not being able to avoid it.

Very sad all the same.

one year we lost 6 bikers in pg. All different accidents. Lately I know 2 people
that have had accidents. Maybe 4 wheels are better.

“Have hit a few moose over the years” .. what’s wrong with this statement?

It can happen very fast, the guy was not necessarily speeding or distracted, although the theory about another vehicle blocking vision is quite possible.
Sometimes these critter run across the road and don’t look each way first.
Godspeed.
metalman.

I witnessed this scene, shortly after it happened and prior to emergency vehicles attending. The body of the motorcyclist was lying on the center line, covered with a blanket, and the moose was lying flat out in the north bound lane. Both were dead. A very sad situation indeed. It was at least 20 minutes before I met emergency vehicles heading to the scene as I was directed to leave the scene by individuals taking care of the situation as I was heading north to PG. I came upon the accident scene at about 9:00 am on Thursday.

If the moose was dead, that probably means speed was a huge factor…. Speed will kill!

Highwa speed kills yet we all have to do it to keep up. Moose are big, dumb and fast. I’m sure he did everything he could to get around it.
