Prince George, BC – Despite two weeks of hot weather, the City of Prince George has escaped the poor air quality that often comes with those high pressure ridges.

The Ministry of Environment’s Air Pollution Meteorologist, Dennis Fudge, says fine particulates often become trapped in the airshed when the city experiences these ongoing weather systems.

But, Fudge says, we’ve been lucky in this month, in that we haven’t seen the stagnant high pressure systems.  "If we did," he says, "They only lasted for a day and as soon as the system moves off, it blows it (the fine particulate build-up) way."

Fudge says the level of fine particulate remains well below the 50 micrograms per cubic metre that prompts an air quality advisory.  He says the level of coarse particulates (dust) has been rising slightly over the last couple of hours, but it, too, remains below the provincially-recommended level.

Environment Canada is forecasting another beautiful week of blue blazers.  After today’s mix of sun and cloud and high to 23, there is nothing but sunshine from tomorrow through to Saturday.  Tomorrow’s high will hit 24, before it climbs to 28 for the remainder of the work week.
