London Hotel Fires – One Suspicious, One Arson
Thursday, August 1, 2013 @ 12:00 PM
While Fire Investigators concluded both fires ( July 22nd and 26th) were “incendiary”, meaning they were deliberately set, only the second fire appears to have been set with the intent to damage, therefore making it a case of arson.
When the second fire was spotted, the London Hotel had been boarded up, there was no power and there were signs of forced entry at the rear of the building. All factors which point to someone going out of their way to set the place ablaze.
Investigators say that in both fires, the flames started in areas where a fire would not likely start on its own.
The fate of the London Hotel is not immediately known. So far, the owner of the property has not made any application to the City of Prince George for permits to repair or renovate the premises.

The insurance adjuster is still going over the building to see if it’s worth doing anything with. So permits won’t be forth coming until a monitory value is placed on the options of overhaul or demolish and start again. Age of the structure and state of current structure need to be evaluated.
Any time there is a situation like this consideration needs to be given to the new code requirements. You just can’t gut and go. The building will need to meet the current building code requirements for the intended use.
The owner could just say “the heck with it” and settle to demolish the building and sell the lot and call it a day. But until the values are set by the various insurance companies involved, this could take a long time to resolve. Just another burnt out security and safety issue in downtown Prince George.
Phillip Danyluk from Living Options Real Estate services. He owns the Ranch Motel aka Homeland Inn, as well as places on Quince street and the same crack shacks in Quesnel called Baker Creek Apartments. I’m sure happy to see this place shut down. It’s better an eye sore, rather then a community sore.
Maybe the city can work with Quesnel City Hall and deliver the same good verdict , hoping they will remove a business licence.
I know of a fantastic Property Manager that worked there, she worked day and night to control his clients. So sad that she left. She had personal Health Issues and couldn’t continue. It was so wonderful to see how happy she was and how she beamed when she was around. We miss you and love you Ms. S.S
LOL. One month before the fires , City Hall and Bylaw spoke with this owner about cleaning up his act, or his business licence will be revoked. Oh… Look… Someone tried to Burn down the building, were unsuccessful and it was declared Arsen
