Prince George, B.C. – For the second straight year, the Prince George Relay for Life event has been the second highest money raiser among similar events in the country. With more than $540 thousand dollars raised it was a record breaking year for the Prince George event, and was second only to Terrebonne Quebec.

 

The Relay for Life event in Terrebonne, Quebec collected $556 thousand dollars, but the population base (106 thousand people) of that Montreal suburb is significantly higher than Prince George.

 

Prince George Relay for Life Team Development Chair Tyler Neilson says the effort in Prince George was “incredible” .

 

Because Prince George made it clear it was pushing to become the number one Relay for Life in the country, that may have spurred other communities to step up their own efforts says Neilson “We have seen other communities pushing to new heights, this has been wonderful to see and is almost as rewarding as our successes.”

 

Money raised from the various Relay For Life events across Canada is put toward cancer prevention and research and is also used to assist people who are living with the disease.
