Quesnel, B.C. – It was a very close call.
Just after 1 this afternoon, an unoccupied vehicle rolled down a steep driveway, and took out the natural gas line at the meter on a home.
The vehicle then continued down an embankment, breaking a retaining wall, and finally coming to rest in the back yard of the residence.
The gas leak forced the evacuation of two homes until the gas could be shut off and the line repaired.
“It is extremely fortunate that no one was injured during this incident” says Constable Krista Vrolyk, media spokesperson fro the Quesnel RCMP. “ The presence of children’s toys on the deck of one of the affected residences, makes it very clear how lucky we were that no one was hurt in this incident.”
The incident remains under investigation. Mechanical issues with the vehicle are being examined as a likely cause.
