The preferred concept for the pool would see the current pool repaired , a new leisure pool added, a second floor added above the existing change rooms for fitness space and the expansion of change rooms.
The cost for the work, $11.3 million.

The aged Sam Ketcham Pool was the scene of a chlorine leak incident in late February of 2012. A mechanical failure resulted in 70 persons being taken to hospital for treatment of exposure to chlorine.
The results of the finance committee’s work will provide more information that can be used in further public consultation, and the eventual referendum that will be held to get electoral approval for the borrowing of the funds needed for the project.
No date has been set for the referendum.

Hopefully they will get the money and the required number of votes on the referendum. These smaller communities need all the amenities they can get.
I agree a good pool is a key amenity for a small community like Williams Lake. I always wonder why they can’t partner with a local hotel when doing these pool developments in small towns. Chetwynd has a good water slide pool complex with one of their hotels and it seems like a good way to bring an amenity like that to town maximizing its value to the economy as well as the community.
I think in any town if you rent a hotel room you should get a free admission to the local pool. They had that in Penticton one time and it was fantastic.
