Prince George, B.C. – Community radio station CFIS FM hopes to have a major power boost in  effect by the end of  October.  The CRTC  recently approved the signal power increase.

Operations manager Reg Fehr says, " We have been operating with five watts since we went on the air and with this approval we will be expanding to 500 watts which will more than adequately serve the Prince George area" .

The station programs boomer oriented music and CFIS President Bill Ollinger says,"we are committed to the promotion of local sports, cultural and community events”.

One thing I noticed when traveling is that no matter what city one is in throughout western Canada they all have the same programing… insert city name.

Whether it be Grande Prarrie, Medicine Hat, Victoria, Campbell River, Kelowna, Lethbridge… you name it and most radio stations are exactly the same in content and programing style as FM94.3 or 99.3, or 73.3… its only when they say the city name that you realize you are in a different town.

How is that any good for journalism when clearly they all have the same editors in charge. Free enterprise in journalism is an endangered concept. If one controls all the radio stations then one can control the content of what is news and what is not news and that is where we are today under media consolidation… cut and paste journalism from the central node.

Good for CFIS. Looking forward to more local coverage .

Same programming, that also applies to all media. That is why I use the internet.
