Packaging and Paper Recycling Decision Expected Next Month

Friday, August 16, 2013 @ 3:58 AM
Prince George, B.C.- Implementing a full curbside recycling program has been on the radar in Prince George for some time, but it ran into a snag when the Provincial Government  decided to make a change.

The Provincial Government decided that instead of governments and taxpayers being responsible for collecting a recycling packaging and printed paper, it would become the responsibility of industry and their consumers.

Local governments have until September 16, 2013 to respond to Multi Material BC (MMBC) on one of two options  whether they wish to accept the curbside recycling collection incentive (i.e.: be paid to pick up the material)  or apply to be qualified as a depot collector  and receive Packing and Printed Paper from residents.

The Regional District of Fraser Fort George will make it’s decision at it’s meeting in September.

The  packaging and paper recycling  is to come into effect in May of 2014.

We need full recycling pickup, including glass and cans, like in normal cities!

I agree with Cherry 1970 this curbside recycling option only accepts printed, paper and packaged products… We currently pay a private co. $35/mth to collect all household paper, tim cans & glass . There are many more recyclable materials than PPP that could be included in curbside recyclable pick up….including organic food waste and grass clippings.
